    P.C. Town Bans Santa Claus

Is something strange in the water in Montgomery County, Md.? This enclave of leftist thought police is notorious for censoring Indian nicknames of sports teams and trying to criminalize smoking in private homes. Now one of its towns has banned Santa Claus.

Kensington Mayor Lynn Raufaste says that a mere two families "felt that they would be uncomfortable" with Santa being part of the annual Christmas tree lighting. So the town council gave St. Nick the heave-ho-ho-ho.

These two families, who don't celebrate Christmas, say they feel excluded because - duh - Santa is synonymous with the holiday.

In years past, Santa would arrive on a fire truck and light the tree with the mayor. But on Sunday, the mayor will light the tree herself, something she calls "a shame," WJLA-TV reported today.

How come kooky, out-of-touch bureaucrats and politicians have no consideration for the majority who are "uncomfortable" with P.C. idiocy?

We know there are plenty of good, sensible people in Montgomery County, because some of them have written to us about the Berserkley-like nonsense going on there. It is time for the silent majority to contact their elected officials and roar.

Bah, humbug! I'm not the biggest fan of Santa Claus anyways. Christmas is so over-commericalized anymore that it's a wonder they don't rename it Santamas or Hasbromas...

On the other hand I think that towns council needs to be sent to a meat rendering plant and converted to Christmas candles or something more usefull...

Where did this story come from?
Why would anyone object to Santa, but not to the tree it's self?
Something doen't sound right, or perhaps incomplete.

Here are two places where I have seen it.

Why would anyone object to Santa, but not to the tree it's self?
I agree. But don't forget that these people sought to "criminalize smoking in private homes".

The politically correct will not rest until there is nothing left to care about in this world.. then no one will care whether anyone pushes that little red button or not.

I'm about as liberal as anyone gets here in Oklahoma and even I can't imagine what was goning through that Town Council's brains. (Or whatever bunch of oily rags they have in leu of)
Someone in that town has way too much time on their hands.

Two families and a hungry lawyer can do a lot of freakin' damage to the finances of a small community. No wonder they caved without a fight.

I sure don't remember it being like this before lawyers were allowed to openly advertise their services. You youngsters may not believe it, but once upon a time people sued only when they had GOOD REASON. Now folks sue (and WIN!) for being "offended" (which can mean almost anything to anyone).

People used to have thicker skins than that.

I agree with you on that... KRSESQ

I say that if its not Politics.. then it can't be politically correct.

Politically Correct shouldn't be considered law... just a rule of thumb..

As for people who are offended by St. Nick

Well then just don't go to the F---ing Tree Lighting...
After the Ceremony you can go anytime you want and look at the F--ing Tree...

People do need a thick skin.. and people who don't have one just need to grow some.

If I were the a kid in one of those families that hadn't been "Brainwashed" (Which is more than likely the case for the children) I would think my parents were social rejects.

That's like banning the swimsuit women at the Detroit Autoshow.

Being someone who spends a bit of time at the Detroit Auto Show....I totally agree

I'm sorry CJOLLEY, but it's largely your east/west coast liberal bretheren who have brought this upon us by making everything that even mildly offends someone a "civil rights issue" of some kind or another.

I'll be the first to admit there are some psuedo-conservative weenies out there too, but they are vastly outnumbered by what a friend of mine calls "the psychotic left". This is because the founders of this movement have, for the most part, taken over the politcal and legal departments of most of our major universities.

The result: a steady stream of graduates with this kind of ideology getting into government jobs and law offices, where they can now do some real damage.

                        Funny thing:

My friend is a life-long (30 years +) registered Democrat/U of M professor who is so ticked off by this fringe, and the failure of the mainstream Democrats to reign them in, that he's thinking of becoming an independent.

After another few years of this crap he'll probaly become a Conservative

                          Dr Mordrid,
You just live in the wrong state.
Here, the ones who complain about "rights" the most are fundamentalist Christians.
The case in MD sounds like them, I might add.

They are the Conservatives burden to bear for sure, but as noted: the psychotic left outnumbers them....and not by a little.

We have both fringes here and you wouldn't belive the problems they cause BOTH parties, but the psychotic left has more influence because the Democrats largely control city and village governments. By riding the Democratic train they therefore have access to getting into a position where they can directly, and usually adversely, affect the average citizen.

The subject of the current discussioin is an example of this.

Another example is the law, recently repealed, that charged dead people a daily "accomodation tax" for the time they were in the funeral home awaiting burial.

The psycho-liberal dumbasses in that city (also in New England) applied this tax, which is usually applied to hotels/bed & breakfasts etc., to mortuaries too.

                            Go figure.....
