as for the custody battles, it was listed only as a reminder that no matter how much you love your kids, they will go away with the parent they feel most loyal to.........or who the courts decide who is better (usually with mother even if she is worthless as a parent)

My parents have been fighting on and off since however long I can remember. The Custody battle thing..God, making you pick b/w both parents you love? That's insane! I refuse to fuel either ones ego. I told my parents if that ever came up again I'd leave. At 16 I left and haven't been back 'cept 1 or 2 days a year.

As parents you guys should act like the responsible grown up. Don't think it's only you that is the one getting hurt. Pain like this is always shared. It's just some people are better at hiding than others.

Custody battles suck. It's not the child's fault that the parents are so damn selfish. And that's all it is - selfishness. Several people I know finally had to say to their parents "you deal with this. Let me know when it's over."

Get a clue Gurm. People change constantly as they age.....my wife and I knew each other 7+ years (and had 2 children) b4 we tied the knot. As soon as we were married I started getting accused of cheating on her, which made no sense (I was faithful, just working 7 days a week to keep bills paid) and she sought comfort on AOL, where she met her current boyfriend and walked out of our marriage on our second anniversary. I have said more than I feel comfortable speaking out here on the 'Net. But I do it so you realize that there is more to life than your narrow vision. No the kids arent the cause for divorce, but the legal system and life force them to choose if possible, and force a decision if not, to where they will live, and all the loyalty demands and bullsh1t that goes with a broken home.

I love my kids, nothing will change that. The sad thing is my youngest would live with me if it werent for the head games the wife pulls on her. Loyalty issues forced on her have her tied in knots on the inside, so I dont push the subject and let her vent about anything she's up to talking about when she visits. I cant stand head games, PERIOD.

Dil, I think what Gurm said meshes well with your story... your WIFE is being selfish, not you nor your daughter. Your wife is putting her feelings before your daughter's. She wants your daughter to love her more than you. I believe that's what Gurm was referring to (and don't make me defend Gurm again... )

When I was 17, I fathered a daughter. She's turning 16 this year and while her mother and I don't necessarily get along, she has been way fair with things like visitation.

I don't believe she ever says anything negative about me around my daughter and I certainly don't badmouth her mother in front of her. Her mother and I have a liveable animosity for each other, but we're both smart enough to admit that our daughter comes before either of our feelings/egos.

Not the best situation, but far from the worst.

Dil, I feel for you man. I can't imagine being kept from my daughter or having her doubt my love for her because someone is telling her untruths or making her question what I tell her. I hope things work out for you.

                          That's EXACTLY what I meant.

Dil, it isn't YOUR fault. But ONE of the parents was obviously being selfish, no?
