Well I see the trouble around holy Croos school in ireland has surfaced again. Time they got some bulldozers and flattened the entire area since they don't want to live in a civilised world.
I also wish the loyalists there would take down the union jack as saying your part of the Britain and acting like that makes us all sick.

Looks to me like a bunch of idiots just looking for an excuse to act like thugs. I doubt most of the morons involved in the violence give a damn about the religious or political issues involved. I've got a bad attitude I guess, but thinking about this kinda stuff makes me want to go join some monastary somewhere and ignore the rest of humanity...

What are these morons fighting for? Cant they see the winds of change. We are to become members of Europe. Currently we have a separate Scottish Parliament and with the slow dissolution and breakup of the UK, all four of it countires must come to terms with the fact that eventually they will become members of a greater Europe. The fools who want to remain British or want to become Irish should realise that they can be part of something much *bigger* than Great Britain ever was.

The issues with NI have been fermented for several hundred years by English involvment. It is a different set of problems from the issues we currently have in mainland Britain. But to answer your question; I am not sure that this would have been sorted sooner if it was done by blacks. By and large the British arent racist. NI is a difficult situation for all sides involved; black, white or green.

As an aside, if you read the newspapers recently it seems that the streets of the UK are some of the best breeding grounds in the world for fundamental islamic terrorist organistations. So It seems that if we cant resolve an issue with a moslem minority then what makes you think that a black one should be easier?

Not only are we good at training the armies of the world but we are good at providing them with targets.

I'll restate my question

Do you think these protests would have lasted over 3months if race was an issue? I dont think so.

There are plenty of problems in this world, and as you pointed out, it's a shame people look so far afield for them

Paddy, No, I dont think that these protests would have lasted as long if it was a racist issue. Unfortunately I still cant fathom the real reasons behind these protests.......I remember talking to work colleagues about this problem a few months ago . One of them was S.African and she believed that the problem was most easily solved by the Catholics not taking their children down the street and aggravating the Protestants. Not knowing the real feelings behind each sides motives in this case, it is difficult to come to a correct answer but I cant see how any one can find the idea of a mother taking her child to school so offensive. But then again I dont live in NI.

Hello all

MD: (I will qualify this with an 'as I understand it!' )
The reasons behind these flairups are legion, but they are primarially due to the changing of the balance of power amongst the thugs/terror groups in North Belfast. About 2 years ago, several hundred (Loyalist) people were moved out of the Shankhill Rd area becase of Loyalist intimidation (there was a power struggle amongst the Loyalsit Terror organisations in that area). Most were re settled in the area where there is now trouble.

These people primarially were attached or 'had connections with' to the UDA/LVF organisations, as I understand it.

These people were not used to Catholic/Nationalist people moving through their area, and kept their Union Jacks/ Terrorist flags up, after the 'marching season', as it is known here...

You must remember that the holy Cross school (Catholic) is withing a protestant/Loyalist enclave, which is within a Catholic/Nationalist area!

There were then some problems with the parents who were taking their Kids to school (Nationalist) in September/October, (Marching season is July). Some of the banners/flags were destroyed..... Trouble......!!!!!

THe Loyalsts felt that 'their Culture was being undermined'

The Nationalists felt that they were being forced to put up with their neighbours 'rubbing their noses it defeat' (remember that the 'marching season' is an oppertunity for Loyalist to commemorate the victory of the Loyalist forces of King William Of Orange against the Catholic King James)

That was it on the surface.

It is a bit more complex. The Loyalists managed to get the area designated a european fund area of special need (rigged by the UK government as a sop to the residents), meaning that they will get their housing improved, amenieties and economic developmenyt monies pumped in..... A few months of rioting can get you double glazing and your house re painted & re-fitted!!!!

Additional to this was the second thrust....
Terrorist organisations (primarially Loyalist) have been flexing their muscle in this area, with the exidus(above) and the shift in demographics.

Its is all a big pile of SH*T!

Now some poor Catholic postal worker has been assinated by some LVF butchers.....

The 'red hand commandos' a cover for the LVF have also issued a statement saying that ALL catholic teachers in North belfast, and all school support staff (cleaners and dinner ladies and the like) are 'ligitimate targets'!.... What a big pile of old W*NK!

This justs sickens me to my core.

Thanks again for explaining some of problems of NI. An even more difficult question is how do we try to resolve this because from an outside perspective the security forces seem to have little effect.
