Oranges are something to do with quiting smokeing, however fruit here are somewhat expensive, ie a grapefruit can cost $2USD and an apple (mind you this is a big god damn apple) can cost $5USD.

Banana's are cheap though- go figure

At the First National Bank of Japan:

Sasq: Hi, I need a loan.

            Loan Officer: Do you work?

Sasq: Yes, I am great teacher Sasq at the local high school.

LO: I've heard many great things about you, great teacher Sasq.

            [bows]

LO: And what do you need your loan for?

            Sasq: I'm quitting smoking.

LO: But wouldn't that give great teacher more money?

Sasq: Yes, but only after I quit.

LO: You need money to buy 'the patch'?

            Sasq: Worse...citrus.

            LO: Citrus?

Sasq: Yes, you know, oranges, mandarins, grapefruit...I need a 7 day supply.

LO: Oh...I understand. I better give great teacher Sasq 100,000 yen...

about $80USD ~ $100USD a week on food, less if we eat a lot of rice, I'm lucky my wife is a good cook.

Next time I go shopping I'll actually write down the weight v's price of some things. Beef is very expensive (even more now due to BSE) pork and chicken are cheap.

4 large onions will cost just under $2, same for potatoes.

Banana's are cheap, kewi fruit expensive...

10kg of nice rice is about $40 or so - you can get cheaper but it really doesn't taste that nice

Japan is extremely strict with rice imports. American rice farmers have been trying to break into the Japanese market for years, but the Japanese government doesn't allow much, if any, to be imported. The US and Japan have been at each other for years about this.

Australian farmers have the same problem with the Japanese Govt. I beleive we supply about 1% of rice in japan, as its a small market they tend to supply the 'exotic' rice as they get more for it.

10kg of rice in Australia usually costs about $10AUS ($5.60USD)

food is expensive, accomodation is expensive. but I love it here.

If anyone gets over here, I'll take you on a tour of Akihabera
then you will understand why I like it here

                              Great! When do tours start?

I've been itching to go to Japan for years. I almost gave up working after graduation to travel to Japan and teach English at a small after-hours school for students who don't do well in their regular classes. Alas, I went to work, but I still wish to go to Japan. My brother just went last year, that bastard!
