I think the Spanish spend as much time fishing in the North Sea as anyone else. They've never really forgiven us for that incident with Frank Drake all those years ago...
As I understand it, the fish farming that does take place is for 'posh' fish like Salmon and Trout. The sort of fish we're talking about are Cod and Haddock. There was some suggestion of moving to other whitefish like Hake and Coli, but I dont know if it really took off.
British cuisine traditionally gets sniggered at by the rest of Europe, but if you ever want a meal fit for a king (and I dont just mean an Elvis impersonator), battered and deep-fried Cod with a portion of thick-cut chips (fries to you colonials ) and a generous sprinkling of salt and malt vinegar. Traditionally served wrapped in newspaper and eaten with your fingers while walking along the seafront in the evening.
Eating the newspaper is entirely optional.
