Yup, they had 'em in shoe stores all over the country when I was a kid.
Now...putting on my RSO hat (radiation safety officer);
Unfortunately they caused huge radiation doses and were responsible for a lot of kids with thyroid or other cancers later in life. The doses were also high enough to cause reproductive problems and cataracts as well.
Now they are illegal to operate, and I'm not even sure about it being legal to even posess them, at least in operable condition.
