Internet companies and next day delivery

I've noticed this quiet a lot in the UK. Companies reckon they've got an item in stock you order it and need it quickly and ask for the next working day delivery. The parcel of course just takes it normal three days to come. I always now if possible just choose the three day stuff unless as some companies have started doing just limiting you to one option. The option of course being next day.

Most places in the US offer 2-day as the fastest option unless you call them, confirm that they have it and can get it on the truck. Otherwise they catch holy hell from FedEx when it is delayed, since overnight is guaranteed.

I've ordered numerous small items (memory, fans etc) from The Overclocking Store on their free 3 day delivery, and often it has turned up the next morning.
Definately no complaints about their service!

On the flipside, I won my Iiyama 17" monitor on Evesham Auctions. Their £15 courier delivery claimed to have left a card at my house 3 times, which I never found. Eventually I got them to deliver to my works address which was around the corner from their depot.

I can't vote on this because I never choose next day delivery for the sole reason that you mention, which is, a lot of the times they don't have it in stock so there is no use getting charged for something you aren't gonna get when expected.

I usally never order anything next Day since the shippping costs are expesive and if I really need something the next day the cost of buying it locally would be the same if I got the item with next day shipping in most cases.

I've found out though if I order something from PA or NY (I live in NJ) and I get UPS Standard shipping I get it with in 24-48 hours of making the order . Not bad for $5 bucks and change.

I normally try to go & collect it myself as I'm not too far from my suppiier!

Overclockers.co.uk doesn't give you an option. Lynx next day only.
I've been told it will arrive on Wednesday. So I placed the order Saturday, the next working day is Monday so it should turn up on Tuesday. I'm going to email them to suggest they put other options back like three day delivery as some of you have noticed this can be quick.
