    Yipes! C#???

    Heavens, no.

I'm focusing on pure Java for the server and network code, for now. Later on perhaps some optimization of the graphics will come in platform specific C++ code.

The reason for pure Java? You can load and unload classes at will, WHILE the program is running!

but Gurm microsft don't like java anymore..if you don't use C# instead of java the world might end

Well, anyways...I'm good for c++, but I have done very little java, but have always wanted to do a bit more

yeah I'm up for a bit of Beta testing, (and c++ if you ever need it)

        Waitaminute waitaminute!

You want people to Beta test?

You mean, Gurm, you seriously expect people to tell you that you've got something wrong?

        People who've met you before?

I know a bit of good ol' C, a bit of java and a bit of Assembly (more comfortable with motorola 68series but i've done intel as well). I miss pascal (nowadays no one even heard of it )

I am willing to be a beta tester as i havent do any programming in years. I could be the one of the extreme testing as i am using Aztech 56k USB modem and am residing in singapore. If i could play your game smoothly from here then just about anyone should be able to as well.

Ok an update with some more information about the CURRENT direction of the game.

              - One persistent universe. Yes, there will be multiple servers. But everyone is on all at once. The servers will represent different virtual aspects of the game world. Some servers will run NPC's exclusively, some will run geography (dungeons, etc.), some will provide other functionality.

              - Graphics will be reminiscent of Baldur's Gate or DiZablo. 2D sprites with a 3D top-down isometric style.

              - Game style is likely to be traditional swords-n-sorcery, although we might move it towards a more Final Fantasy-esque "steam powered" world. Not 100% sure yet, of course.

Additional questions or comments? Direct 'em my way.

Are you a software developer by trade or is it just a hobby? This sounds like an ideal way for me to improve my java and learn about game design. Count me in.

I was a software developer by trade. Then the company went under. Then I was again, and again the company went under.

Rather than assume that I'm cursed, I like to think that I've just been part of the wrong dot-coms.

Welcome aboard. Message or e-mail me.

Not really interested in these types of games, but if I still have working DSL when you get around to beta testing I can provide a server.

My skills lie more in the Arabica area than Java, but several people agree I can complain like nobodies business.

Count me in as a very very entry level programmer (some C+, some VB, and very very basic Java) as well as some testing.

I can also possibly provide a test server as well.

It's ok to be a very basic programmer. The game world won't require a lot of super-coding-skills to make. Once the engine is up and running, SOMEONE has to code "orc soldier", "orc commander", "orc chieftan", "orc overlord", etc. etc.
