BTW, for those of you who rated Spacey less than super, watch the scene in L.A. Confidential where he gets fatally shot. I've never seen anyone die more believably. Also, check out his performance in The Usual Suspects and Pay It Forward. When an actor can steal scenes from a cute kid who is ALSO an excellent actor.. you know he's just the best.

And Edward Norton deserves more than 7, i know he is still relatively new to the scene, but he has done so much in his short career. By the way, he and Al Pacino are certainly better actors than Brad Pitt.

        KvH,

I'm sorry if I have to bash commonly-revered actors. I do a hell of a Jimmy Stewart impersonation. He just looked puzzled all the time, and shpoke with one heck of a lishp short of thing, you know? Old actors are supposed to be great because they stare broodingly at the camera and raise their eyebrows.

Oddly enough, nobody included Bogart on here, and I think he was great. Maybe I'm just sick of "It's a Wonderful Life", and would otherwise be less harsh with Stewart.

Oh, and you're right - "Last Tango In Paris" was absolutely Brando's best work ever.

If only life were as easy as you
        I would still get screwed

No mention for Samuel L Jackson? Gene Hackman? Jack Nicholson? Robert Carlyle?
I'd be tempted to add Ewan McGreagor, Geiraud Depardue (sp??), and even Hugh Grant and Will Smith. (Hugh for his superb cad in Bridget Jones' Diary and Will for his transition from Fresh Prince thru Independance Day to Ali)

Sorry wanted to add something to.

There are many many yougn good actors coming through nowadays and the standard is much higher today than it was 30 years ago.

Ewan McGregor and Edward Norton are one of the most talented young actors in my opinion. And amongst the established the best are in my opinion again, Kevin Spacey, Al Pacino, Gene Hackman, Jack Nicholson and Robert de Niro. And why noone mentions female actors is beyond me, but IMO Jodie Foster is a fantastic actor.

There are ofcourse many more actors worthy of mention but my time is short.

                Depp 8
                Penn 6
                Pitt 9
                Denzel 8
                Hanks 7
                Stewart 9
                Crowe 8
                Brando 7
                De Niro 10
                Norton 9
                Pacino 10
                Spacey 8

I find Hanks has been lucky. He always lands the killer rolls. He is a good actor, but not as good as people claim.

Brad Pitt really can play any roll. While Legends Of The Fall was perhaps more a chick flic, I found he played the role well. Kalifornia, 12 Monkeys, Fight Club played an excellent maniac. The only movie I found he was great in was Seven.

Well for James Stewart, he's also quite popular across the rest of the (non-english-speaking) world where he can't take advantage of his "shpeaking", so that's not really a valid argument. He had the advantage of having the opportunity in playing in some really nice movies, though - which is IMO at least as important as the actual acting capabilities. If you're one hell of an actor and solely played in B / trash-movies no one will remember you...

For Brad Pitt, I hate to say it, but he can actually play. It's just that I don't like him or the movies he is / was making...
It's quite the same as with Beckham, I really hate this boygroup type of guy, but as a soccer-player he's really great.

I was half expecting someone to make the link between footballers and actors

Re Beckham, I've seen him in interview once or twice and he comes across as a really nice, genuine and likeable guy if not particularly smart. His wife on the other hand
