Yup, i had the feeling, that it is on purpose, but there's no hint to that in the movie, especially Anakin's criticism is new to me (and i think to 99% if all visitors).

I have another speculation Padme is a Jedi too (better: the force is with her). Or how do you explain, that a normal human can jump from a 10m (or higher) high pole without problems on the back of a just-tamed-by-Anakin creature in the arena (not to mention her stunts at this strange conveyor-belt)?

    • Lizzie, you cannot, unfortunately, use much of that information in regards to the movies.

Lucas has declared books/comics/graphic novels/etc. to be "EU" or "Expanded Universe", and unrelated to the movies "MU" or "Movie Universe".

The book versions of the movies, however, are pretty fair game.

      Rakido:

I tend to agree with you about the force being strong with her. There is MUCH speculation over on the other fori about this. It would help to explain why Luke can defeat Vader...

Vader = Anakin = 50% force (mother mortal, father midichlorian - ick)
Luke = 25% force (mother padme, father anakin)

UNLESS... padme is also strong in the force, in which case Luke stands a chance...

Sounds logical, but somehow i have the feeling, that it will not be explained with genetics. I mean, even Anakin can't be explained with genetics, he's just filled up with midichlorians, source unknown.

Speculation time again: Maybe Yoda sees in Ep. III, that he or others can't fight Anakin as Darth Vader and transfer most of his force (or maybe all remaining jedis do it) to the newborn Luke. After this, he flees to his asylum planet (can't remember the name).

        • i thought Anankin was born a virgin birth. and i have no idea what a midichlorian is.. my roommate left the house for a bit

(edit) nevermind i took it upon myself to look something up for once.

Midi-chlorians, as explained by the creator of Star Wars, George Lucas:

"Midi-chlorians are a loose depiction of mitochondria, which are necessary components for cells to divide. They probably had something--which will come out someday--to do with the beginnings of life and how one cell decided to become two cells with a little help from this other little creature who came in, without whom life couldn't exist. And it's really a way of saying we have hundreds of little creatures who live on us, and without them, we all would die. There wouldn't be any life. They are necessary for us; we are necessary for them. Using them in the metaphor, saying society is the same way, says we all must get along with each other."

          and Mitochondria.....

Mitochondria, small cellular structures, or organelles, found in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells (cells with a nucleus). Mitochondria are responsible for converting nutrients into the energy-yielding molecule adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to fuel the cell's activities. This function, known as aerobic respiration, is the reason mitochondria are frequently referred to as the powerhouse of the cell.

          • All I know is that Lucas killed "the force" as we know it, with two simple lines...

"I've never seen a midichlorian count that high, not even in Master Yoda!"

            and

"If you listen hard enough, you can hear them talking to you..."

            BLECH.

I KNOW what he meant them to be, and I also know what they are as explained by Qui-Gon. And that is that they are GAY.

            • Well I went to see it last week, the digital version. Looked pretty good, but I noticed a few problems. Yes it was sharp, but too sharp IMO. Edges don't look like that to me. And camera pans looked pretty rough as well. Dark scenes looked poor, since blacks looked more like shades of gray instead. A lot of the details got lost. I'm guessing this is because of the projector and not the DLP technology itself.

And what's this black leather suit you guys speak of? I don't remember her wearing one. But yeah, the "white nipple suit" rocked

              • Wow! I just watched A New Hope again for the first time in a long time, and while it had a number of bad lines, it was a great movie, far better than the current ones.

BTW, has anyone seen the Joseph Campbell PBS TV series where he talked about Star Wars?

If he remasters them (without 'improvements') then even better, a higher quality recording is great.

                    • That the emperors name is Palpatine has been known since the first movie.....

In the movie Jango's payment was an "unaltered exact clone and without accelerated growth"

Bobba Fett is about ten years old,
Jango got into that 10 years ago,

Ergo Bobba Fett is Jango Fett's clone...

Yoda did seem to suspect Palpatine for something.....

yeah, that's very obvious, but isn't it a bit too obvious ??? There's a doubt (or a hope?) in the back of my head, that the emperor is Palpy ... (but i have no clue, who could it be else)

                        • The emperor's name is Palpatine. That much has been clear since the novelization of Episode 4, 20 years ago. The question is whether they are twins, clones, or whatnot. Chancellor Palpatine becomes emperor, but it's unclear whether Sidious IS him, or takes his place, or what.

If they did use a DLP projector, there's no way it could look as good as it would on film. DLPs do not render blacks as well even as CRT projectors can. The best image is still going to be produced with the technology that has been around since Edison, no matter how much technologists want it to be otherwise. The real world is analog. Digitizing it can't make it any better.

The best film images can be seen in IMAX theaters, which use the traditional photographic film technology as developed to a more mature state. Large format frames switched at a more rapid rate.. this is the key to better visual quality. If anyone saw Lawrence of Arabia when it did its tour after the restoration, you'll know what I'm talking about as well. It was filmed using large format negatives and presented in 70mm, and the image quality was absolutely superb. This movie was made over 40 years ago. Don't even try to tell me that digital videotape can improve on this. We've taken a real step backwards, IMHO. If they want to switch to digital, fine.. but they need to make the technology BETTER than current technology first.

                            • Am I the only one that noticed that in Analogue this movie was very pixellated? Especially noticeable in the dark bits - lots and lots of dithering. Geez, Lucas - get a good output filter, huh?
