  • It's so fun with WMA and XP!

We upgraded a customers computer with a faster cpu (Duron 800-->XP1800+) and had to uppgrade his bios to make it work.

And Ofcourse XP wants to Reactivate....

After that all His WMA files became unplayable.....

according to XP the license did not alow anything......

    The customer became furious ofcourse....

After making Wmediaplayer not "protecting" his WMA files from himself and explaining why and so the customer was'nt so angry on us any more

So now it time to sing:
If there's artificial intelligence, there's bound to be some artificial stupidity.

And people wonder why I don't want anything to do with XP

The truth of the matter is I was one of the XP betatesters and had my fill of this kind of crap...not to mention having to reinstall it just to resolve simple problems.

Because of this experience I would like to propose a term for software like WinXP: ProzacWare

I agree with you, I just hope that something positive comes of all the law suits against Microsoft that will truely benefit the end user.

I love XP, you guys have it all wrong! I've only had to re-install it every other day. I don't see what's so wrong with the OS.

Re-installing the same crap over and over again on your system cause it was programmed by mentally challenged monkeys is great fun!

XP runs great!!!!! Until you turn on your system!

Then the problems start. And the updates for it make the OS worse!!

        Stupid OS.

        Glad I didn't buy it!

Hi, just wanted to say that my XP runs fine. I don't know why it is so bad on some systems but I know it has some compatibility issues with some hardware and software.
One sure I'm sure of, is that MS is on the right way (except for the WMA)...
          System : ASUS A8N SLI premium, Athlon 64X2 3800+, 2Gb, T7K500 320Gb SATAII, T7K250 250Gb SATAII, T7K250 250Gb ATA133, Nec ND-3520, Plextor PX130A, SB Audigy 2, Sapphire Radeon X800 GTO, 24" Dell 2407WFP.

Well, it's interesting that this happens to some people and not to others. I've NEVER had a problem here, but...

A friend of mine, with the same... *ahem* non-activation-challenged *ahem* version of XP as me changed some hardware around, and while it of COURSE didn't prompt him to re-activate (can't, corporate edition), it DID lock him out of his own system.

I, on the other hand, have never had a problem, no matter what I do to the machine.

There is something icky afoot, and its name is WPA.

I'm the least you could do, oh yeah
If only life were as easy as you
            I would still get screwed

The other day I upgraded my mouse mat.
No crap, WinXP prompted me to re-activate!!

Then, I was at a friends house, and we upgraded his monitor from "being covered in finger prints" to "Nice and clean after some screen clean" and his copy of WinXP prompted for re-activation!!

              What bollocks.
A BIOS upgrade does not prompt for re-activation, neither does a CPU upgrade.
These are both classed as extremely minor upgrades and certainly do not mess around with anything.

Oh well, what do I know, I've only worked on lots and lots and lots of WinXP machines where the OS is legal and not ripped off.
At least I'm gonna be able to run SP1 on my copy of WinXP - It wont be locking me out after the upgrade.
It cost one penny to cross, or one hundred gold pieces if you had a billygoat.

                Sigh......

I must be stupid but when there is a MS sticker on a Siemens-Fujitsu computer I usualy assume that the licence is legit....

It might be true that neither CPU or bios changes prompt reactivation on their own....

But they sure do it togheter.....

                and lastly:
