  • Trip down Memory Lane....

I just got done going through the two racks of Computer Related Software CD that I have in my room and damn it brought back alot of good memories. First off was running into Wing Commander III spread out over 4 CDs. I think that has to quaifily as one of the oldest programs in my collection right now (had some older ones but dumped the whole rack on Ebay for $15 buck and they where mostly crappy games...except Bioforge and couple others). Next up I ran into all 3 Quakes in my possession and counting this theme I noticed that I had every Mechwarrior since MW2 till MW4 and both Mechcommander 1 and 2. I also have all of the Close Combat Series from when it started off with MS and then Winding up with SSI. The other thing I noticed also was there was alot of damn good games that came out in 1996-97 time period. If My memory serves me right thats right around when the First Voodoo cards started to come out (I had an Orchard Righteous 3D in my P90 or P166 back then...I think I still even might have the card! ).

I'll have to dig through my old mans Collection one day...I know he still has the Orginal Wing Commander on Floppies in his desk I think! I really miss that series and its a share that Origin got shafted by EA...another good publisher that pretty much went down the tubes was Microprose...they where the first computer related games I played in depth on my trusty Commadore 128 when I was about 12 yrs old. The First two games where Silent Service and F-15 Strike Eagle.

So what else does anyone else have thats hiding in there collection?
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

The ATF series from EA (USNF, ATF, ATF Gold, Fighters Anthology, they managed to repackage the same game and sell it 4 times )

Mostly because while the game never looked that great, the airplanes had very very different characteristics which made it interesting to play it…..

Not to mention that in dogfight a JAS 39 Griffin kicked the s*** out of a F22…. (online gaming was often guns only dogfight)

I have kept all my old games, I can still renember that my first 3 games for pc was:
eye of the beholder from westwood
nighthawk F117a stealth figther 2.0 from microprose
          and wing commander from origin

i played them on my dads computer:
          16mhz 386
          1 mb ram
          standard vga
adlib soundcard (the soundcard was actually my first upgrade )

I completed both eye of the beholder(still one of my favourite games) and wing commander(it took me 2 joysticks! ).
F117a never really got my attention(im not much of a simulation-freak, i guess).

I recently found a couple of gems on abandongames.com. Stunt Car Racer, and the original 2D version of Prince of Persia. Both are tons of fun, and run fine on a 286! They sure bring back memories...

                  Don't take any kredit....
We also called them that when it happened...

Besides the one chrash where the pilot ejected was human error....

He tried to fight the auto leveling system and paniked, after he had ejected the plane actualy recovered untill the "dead mand grip" cut in....

During one of the joint air manuvers it (with a competent pilot) it out manuverd AIM-9's (sorry only remember the type name)....

And it's "handbrake" manuver is impressive.....

Must be one if the american AIM-9M, not the Norwegian/German AIM-9L (improved)

Yes, JAS is a good airplane, Norway choose to improve its F16 planes with a MLU update (Mid Life Update), in 2010 we'll bye the new American JSF

Yes, but unfortunatly it was constructed not to be agressive against the USSR.....

JSF (Joint Strike Fighter) can be used agressively against about anyone who pisses off the Prez and/or Congress.
There will be versions ranging from straignt interceptors to light bombers & carrier craft to replacements for the A-10 Warthog and Harrier. That's what "Joint" means....a version for every mission and service.

That said I don't think they should replace the A-10. That thing has been proven effective even with half the plane shot away

Another funny thing about the griffin....

The official take off and landing requirements is 800 meters....

In reality the plane "jumps" into the air after aprox 400-500 meters due to lighter (and stronger composit) materials than originaly awailable to use...
