    I use both too.

    Millimetres,
    Centimetres,
    Feet,
    Metres,
    Miles

    And for quantities:

    Pints.

I heard an enlightened proposal from some one at my college that gave a convincing arguement for time being converted into a base 12 system. It just seemed to work better, but I can't remember the details.

I could see a day being turned into 10,000 or 100,000 seconds, but wouldn't there still have to be ~365.2424 days in a year since that realtionship is defined by natural processes?Changing to metric time would also screw up time zones. Everything else meaning meters, liters, etc . . . Would of course take time, but would be easy in comparison.

Steve, in Australia, most places have done away with pint glasses *sob*, we've got schooners which are 405mL and midi's ~280mL... and I have to say, as much as it pleases me to hold a pint o' Killkennys in me 'and, the schooner glass does have it's advantages... mainly that you finish it long before it gets warm (which is good if you're in a climate like Sydney where the weather tends not to aid the cooling of beer, which being a pommy lad you may not appreciate anyway )

I don't care so much for the measurements, as the beer itself

But that's not what we're talking about is it... sorry, I get side-tracked easily!

We use base 10 system cause we have 0 fingers (stupid but true).
If we had 12 fingers, we'd have a base 12 system and math would have been much more advanced.

            Why ? you ask ?

Caut 10 can be easily devided by 1,2 and 5. Especially by physical means.
12 on the other hand can be eaily devided by 1,2,3,4 and 6.
You can have thirds and quarters while still staying within integers !

Fingers lol... over here we already got computers.
Someday, we'll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject.

I think decimalized time would be cool, but I don't think its going to happen soon.

We have a payroll program, which decimalized minutes eg you time is given in hours, with the digits after the decimal not being minutes but 1/100 th of an hour, somthring to do with the time/punch clocks people use...but our clients are switching back to normal time.

what about degrees in a circle?..I suppose we have radians which is a natrural measurement

metric.... english... confuses me all the time actualy.... prefer metric its more defined... then there is the Video problem... until DTV and HDTV fully replace our tv and vid systems we are stuck with PAL and NTSC.... and there are two ways to timecode NTSC ... dorp and non drop frame..... confuses the hell out of me... PAL is closer to film 25fps and 24fps respectivly... (although some would argue that PAL is actualy 50 half frames known ans fields) and has better color and resolution.... try working using mixed formats on an NLE its just hell
