Fiesta mk1 XR2 mk1 XR2 mk2 Nissan Micra Proton that I owned all had runroofs and none of them leaked. I remember the XR2 being iced up and melting on me while driving but otherwise dry. Nope the clio sucks.

Also my road tax is due this month. One bit of good news is that remote console costs £35.00 to replace.

They have to have some sort of drain for the cavity, there is no such thing as a leak proof sunroof and ALL have these drains UNLESS it was installed at hack shop.

        You misread my post slightly

The sunroof doesnt appear to leak, because any water that leaks past the seal goes into the drainage channels and from there is drained out of the car.

          You owned a Nissan Micra?
          AND a Proton?

Good grief, you weren't a serial killer in a previous life were you, TP??

I've owned 3 Sierras, Cavalier Mk's 2 & 3 and a brace of BX's, and only the BX's have ever given me leaky sunroofs, because of the aformentioned blocked drainage channels filling the rear footwells with water.

The dealers story is that the threads that hold the bolts to the frame get stripped and the whole frame gets loose. I asked if it was a design fault and they said no as theres been no recall.
There solution is a whole new sunroof. Thats if they are right.
To my I think if it's a stud mounting you can get a die and tap it down to next size. If it's a screw hole you drill out to the next size up and tap that. The problem would be getting the dealer to do it.
There is someone else that can have a look but while the car is imobile there isn't anything I can do.
If this is a common problem like the dealer claims, hop over (no pun intended) to the Aussiefrogs or Andyspares forums and ask about it there.
Someone is bound to have come across it before, and can either tell you how to fix it or tell you if the dealer is yanking your chain.

The new Nissan Micras are quite nice quite nippy (burnt more powerful cars off from a standstill a few times without trying) I had one a loan car while the Proton got fixed after a dum **** drove into the back of it. Proton never broke down very quick for a large car with a 1.4 engine, faster than my Clio. The orginal Nissan Micra was a quick buy for a job I was starting within a few days.

I've posted on Andyspares forum so lets see what happens. I've also got a thicker rubber sticky seal which I've put round the orginal gasket.
I've also picked the new console sensor and that works so I can now start the car.
I double checked for drainage holes and there maybe some at the back, Hard to tell cos the glass gets in the way. However these would be useless as the rain is getting in at the front and it water drains that way.
The spare parts bloke at the garage said it was a common problem with Renaults and that I was unlikely to cure even with a new one.

And the Micras now also come with the CVT (gearless automatic tranmission) instead of a manual tranny... smooth, literally.
Someday, we'll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject.
