I don't hate everything. I'm just more in line with what The Rock listens to.

Mmm... Testament. Haven't heard anything they did since the second album, but there were a few really great tunes on there.

I don't dislike new music. The problem is that I like MUSIC. New ... err ... sound ... isn't technically music, since it lacks some of the basic prerequisites. Those, for the uninitiated, are melody, rhythm, and structure.

Sadly, I must confess to a real weakness for Rob Zombie and Limp Bizkit. And Rammstein. *sigh*

There's hope for you yet if you like Rammstein; some of their stuff is really good. And I know what you mean about Zombie. I don't know what it is about that funky-sounding heavy groove, but I like it. I don't know what Testament album the song is from (Down For Life), but its a newer one and an excellent old fashioned metal song that doesn't sound really stupid like most loud stuff; sounds a LOT better than that old 15-year-old headbanger crap they started out with. Apparently, the lead singer just came back from throat cancer, and he beat it.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that I put 3 Butthole Surfers songs on that weird mix. You wanna get a FREAKY disc, look for their Weird Revolution disc on WInMX/Morpheus/whatever. I ain't saying its a great disc, just.....weird. Makes a lot more sense when inebriation (sp?) is involved.

Currently I'm listening a lot to Suicide Commando but I guess you wouldn't like it and Front242 is back on number one, going to a front concert in two weeks, yahoo.

On my CDs there usually is music like Depeche Mode, The Cure, Billy Idol, The Smiths, U2, Yazoo, TearsForFears, Spandau Ballet, some good ol' Rock'nRoll, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Elvis, Eddie Cochran up to even some Guns'n'Roses things.

Man, do I feel old...

Well, at least I'm not the only Oasis fan. I can't believe no one has mentioned 311, Bob Marley, or Sublime. No TX Country fans either. Cory Morrow, Robert Earl Keen, Pat Green, Cross Canadian Ragweed??

You know, I can't give Oasis a chance. After the abysmal first release of "If you could only see the way she loves me", in which they start in one key and then abruptly (and completely accidentally) change to an unrelated key in mid-phrase... I don't care if the rest of their stuff is pure gold. If you don't give enough of a shit about your own music to learn how to stay in key, you don't deserve to have me listen to you.

Period.

And don't get me started on Sublime. It never ceases to amaze me that if you die of an overdose, everyone assumes that you are talented. Not only was his biggest hit a (bad) cover of a Beatles tune, but it had that irritating "high pitched noise" running over the top of the entire track, which is an "alternative music" convention I can do without, thanks. He horrifyingly wrecked "smoke two joints" by the Toyes, and just generally sucked.

I know. I'm going to be accused of being a grouch again. But I'm not. I'm something worse - a musician from a family of musicians. I'm overly critical of poor music (aka 99% of what passes for "music" nowadays) and I have the knowledge to back it up (most MUSIC majors never take Theory 5). You should hear me and my brother rip apart today's "music". HE has a degree in Music from Westminster Choir College (one of the most prestigious vocal music schools in the world), and we just go to town on bad music.

Then we turn around and listen to Testament. Go figure.

I can't stand Oasis much myself, I only like two songs, Champagne Supernova and Wonderwall. Man those tunes bring back some nice memories.

Champagne Supernova used to be the song that we listened to before we crashed each night. Calmed us down, made us sleep really good. Woke up feeling great! Now it's my "going home" road trip song. Always makes me think of my best friend and the good times we used to have.

Gurm when did I say I liked Sublime because the lead singer died of a drug overdose? And they are a mix of punk and ska, so their recordings won't be "perfect." I actually like that garage sound. I guess you won't like Hayden either since his recordings are so homemade.

Hehe, if you really want to hear an out of tune song, listen to "You Were Loved" by Hayden. He said for that song that he tuned his Mustang acoustic way up and threw it down a staircase. Makes a great noise, lol. Actually works well for the song though IMO. Interview was here.
