Worldcom has just filed for chapter 11 (like many people expected) and the knock on effects is that the stock markets are performing a powerdive into the basement.

FTSE is down over 100 points in the first 15 minutes of trading. I'm watching the market with a sort of morbid fascination just to see how worthless the few shares I own will become.

NOW is the time to BUY!

Wait until stocks are worth a buck apiece, then buy hundreds of 'em. When the market DOES recover (and despite the naysayers it HAS to - unless you think that the entire country will fall into chaos and the capitalist system will implode on itself - in which case you should really move somewhere else you weirdo) you'll be RICH RICH RICH!

Oh, well.. I bought 20,000 shares of WCOME at ten cents apiece last week, and now that they've declared bankruptcy I'm sitting on a profit.. bizarre. It's all just a gamble at this point.

my brother in law adam had stock with PNC .. he is depressed. he owned lots of stock with pnc.. they went from i think $40 to $20 or something the day he told me what happened

Yes.. I try not to think about mistakes.. like buying GNSS at 23.50. It's now around 7.

I inherited $100k in telecomm stock... just before the downturn. It went from $100k to about $50k almost overnight. It's now worth almost nothing, but I managed to sell when the selling was good and recoup about $50k to diversify.
