    a litlle question:

if it hits the moon instead, would it be able to push the moon out of orbit? the moon isn´t as big as a continent, AFAIK, so it would affect the moon greatly.
because if the moon gets out of its orbit, then earth gravity, would probably pull the moon towards us, and instead of a small astroid destroying a continent and making climate changes, we would have a moon destoying earth completly.
This sig is a shameless atempt to make my post look bigger.

Now THAT is a worst-case scenario! Yike!

TBD & Gurm: That would be cool to see live though!

Just imagine seeing that happen right before your eyes! Wow.

Edit: Even if they made a simulation of it, it would still be cool to watch!

Looks like you can relax for now...2060 could be fun though. Shame I prolly won't be around to see that!

I don’t know if i should be more afraid of the threat of a celestial body crashing into earth or humanities tremendous capacity to create weapons of mass destruction

Easy, be afraid of humanity, cause we will end up destroying ourselves before nature or the universe has a chance to get rid of us!

We're more likely to mess up by a mistake more than anything else. So I must have some faith in humanity.

I have some faith in humanity also.

There are people who aren't bent on destroying all humans.

Just look at me, even though I joke about seeing the Earth destroyed by an meteor or asteroid, I still wouldn't unleash a bomb of some sort that could destroy us all. But if something is hurttling itself at incredible speeds towards our planet, I do want to live.

                          Stupid box.
Why do we always strive to make weapons of mass destruction?

Did you know that the gun was originally invented to kill humans? It still does today!
