My main PC got hot enough to set off the system temp alarm (set at 35c) last night, and that was with the window open behind it, a ceiling extractor going full blast above it, and a 3' tall tower fan blasting air over the front.

It finally tipped me over the edge to go get the portable aircon unit I've been promising myself for the last 3 years.

Now the case is 27c, my knees are about 11c, and the back of the room where the vent pipe for the aircon runs out the window is about 50c.
At least I cant hear the case fans whining anymore!

Lovely weather. Feel like I'm home if I close my eyes. Even went on the road in shorts. Pity it won't last.

Rich - can you wrap that vent pipe in something to stop it venting a lot of the heat back into the room? And can you get a good seal on the window with it in place? Both will increase the efficiency somewhat.

Yeah I'm working on it. Primary fix will be to move all the crap out of the way so I can place the aircon closer to the window for a shorter pipe run.
It doesnt help my current layout is very space effective and ergonomic, but doesnt provide very good airflow.

A more radical solution would be to make a hole through an outside wall or into a chimney - then there would be no pipe or unsightly mess around your window!

                Good Luck

I noticed a funny thing as I pulled into my driveway last night. My upstairs neighbours bedroom window is one of those ones that hinges at the top and the bottom opens outwards, and they've been leaving it wide open in the hot weather.

Its directly above the window I put the aircon vent hose from every night to cool my bedroom down, so I think that every night since I got aircon I've been inadvertently pumping hot air directly into their bedroom...whoops!
