  • Greatest Rock Album Ever.. Bar None..

Is "Live at Leeds" by The Who.

Just got this gem in the remastered version with the complete concert, which includes a full performance of "Tommy" on disc 2. If anyone has any doubts about my assessment of this CD, just listen to the last two tracks of disc 1, "My Generation" and "Magic Bus," with all the extended jamming.. pure, musical, visceral hard rock. I've had the LP for years and the original CD too, but the sound was pretty dirty.. I'd always hoped they'd clean it up. Sweet, sweet CD.

I'll have to give that a listen, but it'll have to go a long way to displace the likes of Led Zeppelin I & II and the Black Crowes 'Shake your money maker' or 'The Southern Musical and Harmony Companion' from my CD player.

I would have to agree with you there RichL. Not much can beat Zeppelin. Definitely will have to see about Live At Leeds though.

Feh. I can beat Zeppelin - with a stick.

Lost all respect for those guys as soon as I heard Kashmir for the first time.

I hate people who pirate songs without crediting the original artist.

          Then how about "Thriller"?

Actually; my favorite album is Janis Joplins "Pearl".

            Go on then, enlighten me.
I wasnt aware Zeppelin copied Kashmir from anyone else.

              RichL,

Listen closely to Kashmir. Then listen closely to "25 or 6 to 4" by Chicago. Repeat until you achieve enlightenment.

(Consider that 25 or 6 to 4 was written and recorded perhaps 10 years before Kashmir).

Yeah, as a rock vocalist Joplin is hard to beat. I guess I just like loud guitars and feedback though.

Who cares, Led is one of the best bands ever. Even if they did copy it, everyone has their influences. I never liked the Who(sorry bro). hmm, too hard to pick favorite albums, but here are some...

Iron Maiden - Live After Death
                  Jewel - Pieces of You
Santana - The new one(cant remember the name)
Limp Bizkit - Chocolate covered starfish and the hotdog flavored water
Metallica - Ride The Lightning/Master of Puppets(I can't decide which is better)
                  CandleBox - Self Titled
                  Slayer - Reign in Blood
                  Aerosmith - Pump
                  Tool - Enigma
HEART - These Dreams - Heart's Greatest Hits

There are many great songs too but not the whole albums.

                    My top three:

                    1. Tool - Lateralus
                    2. Soundgarden - Superunknown
                    3. Radiohead - The Bends (probably)

                    Go on, flame me then...

Edit: Actually, Radiohead doesn't really count as rock, does it?

It sounds absolutely bugger all like Kashmir. Are you sure you're thinking of the right song? The rythm guitar sounds like the rythm from Zeppelin's 'Babe I'm Gonna Leave You', but other than that the songs are totally different.
Actaully the first couple of bars sound more like Green Day's 'Brain Stew' than anything from Zeppelin

Erm, might have the Zep song name wrong. It's the one that Jimmy Page redid with Puffity Puff Diddly Diddle... for Godzilla, I think.

                          Has the same chord pattern.

                          1 2 3 4 5
                          (full step down)
                          1 2 3 4 5
                          (half step down)
                          1 2 3 4 5
                          (half step down)
                          1 2 3 4
                          (half step down)
                          1 2 3 4

Kashmir was the one that was redone with Puff Daddy and Jimi Page, but I think RichL is right. It does sound quite similar to Babe I'm Gonna Leave you. Actually I heard it on "The Drive" home from work this afternoon.

25 Or 6 To 4 was much more upbeat than Kashmir.
