  • Apartment Question

Here goes...My GF and I where set up to move into a new apartment on the 10th of this Month. We got paperwork for the Securty Deposit/Pet Deposit/First months rent about 2-3 weeks ago. We left a small deposit for the place already also.

I just got a phone call from the apartment place and they tell me that the current tennants are staying another month...9 F***ing days before I'm supposed to move in. My GF got the electric "turned on" and new phone number for the place today, just as they stated on the paperwork they sent us. Does anyone have an ideas for a recorse I can do with the apartment? I'm kinda stuck inbetween a rock and hard place since my GFs current lease is up at the end of the month and that would require her moving two times...once to her moms for a couple days and then to the new apartment. I know most places you have to give at least 30 days notice before you move out...and if they gave that already...how the hell can they change it at the last minute?
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

Did you sign a lease yet?

If you haven't signed a lease yet, you're kinda SOL.

However... they DO have to give notice, usually in writing. Unless their lease was ALSO up and they were going month-to-month.

See, you're in a pretty sucky spot. Unless you signed a lease, in which case you're in an actionable spot.

Yup....sounds like a case for small claims court to me. Most places don't allow lawyers in SCC so whatever you gain isn't sucked up by some legal vampyre.

Reminds me of what's happening to the ppl who live above some friends of mine. All they gave was a verbal notice but then decided they needed to stay a few extra months!!! There was soemone who was supposed to move in, had all the papers in order and had the phone hooked up etc.. needless to say they were mad she stayed! After 3 months of arguing the finally got her evicted because of many noise complaints and such.

The girl who lives there is 19 years old and has a child, but her friends are what kills me. They do A LOT of HARD drugs in her apartement and stay up until early in the morning. We've had to fend off some cracked up retards and clean up quite a few messes they made cause they got too drunk. And yet she raises a child in that mess!

But to stay on subject, Gurm is right, there isn't much you can do.

That sucks. I thought that youhad to give three months notice to give up an apartment. But you can give only 9 days to say your're staying another month?

It's not bad though if you both have a place to stay in the mean time, even if it involves 2 moves.

The thing I'd be worried about is if Mr Furley ****s you over like that before you move in, what's it gonna be like living there.

Sounds like my old apartment. I didn't do as much shit as they did, but man did they ever do a lot. Good times....

But definately not a place for a little kid.
