Practice your unbendable arm, it is important. And also, practice falling. You need to be able to fall safely.

The small girls are actually quite fun (and very useful) to train with IME, irimi nage in particular will never be the same again.

Shomenuchi Irimi nage Ichi and Ni are my favourite techniques

Especially after Kemeda Sensei showed me exactly how it's done

Really? I'd rather Kote Gaishi from that. People tend to adjust their hand after it hasn't hit something, which means you can easily put it where you want it
But then, I'm very fond of that technique Kaiten nage is good from a vertical attack like that too.

Kote Mawashi (Nikiyo) is a favourite of mine too, especially as at one dojo, we did a lot of work with swords too (Morrison Sensei was really more of an Iaido sort of person -we often did the best sword work at seminars we went too)

I'm only 5'7", so irimi nage is where it was at for me

ryote dori, irimi nage shiho nage, ura waza katate dori kokyo nage, as just about everything comes from above to me

well, don't grade me on my spelling, but you guys know what I'm talking about

William, as far as koto gaishi, it gets pretty sketchy, especially for tenkan nge, then again maybe it's just cause all the old timers at my old dojo had friggen wrists bigger around than my knees

EDIT: I was just sitting here thinking, it took me like ten minutes to remember and equate movements with names. I've been gone to long - going back needs to be top priority.

Yes I drive a 13yr old Volkswagen; Yes I'm a dirt poor college student; Yes every tank of gas is more $$ than the value of my car, but it is FUN to drive, so I don't care about your ego or how much your car cost, if you insist on going the exact same speed in the passing lane as the car next to you for 10 minutes, stop being a self righteous ass, move the hell over and just let me by!!!

You guys should've gone to Robert Mustard's Clinic here in Mississaugua, it was the most amazing thing.

He tought a class of about 70 and everyone was in ah!

His one wrist grasp (katatemochi Nikaigo Osae) was effortless, as Aikido should be.

It'll take me a while to start to relax my body the same way he does

                Cheers,
                Elie

If you want the video of the clinic, once released I will post a sample first, then the Dojo who is selling them.

I think my enjoyment of Kote Gaishi (and I'm not going to look up the correct spelling now either ) stems from using it as a knife defence. I've not seen another technique for taking a knife that you can do as safely.

ok - a picture is worth a thousand words (I guess about 160,000 words/Canadien, eh?) Now I get ya, it must be katate I was thinking you ment Good ole irimi nage - kote gaishi, and on the fun days, toss in a little hip and never grab and watch em trip over their own knees for ten or tewnty feet

methinks I'll check out what schools are down here now online tonight and pay some a visit tomorrow

Sorry to bump up an old thread like this, I just wanted to thank you guys for your advice and encouragement. I've gone to two sessions now and I think I'll be sticking with it for a good while at least. It's a lot to take in and everything's still a blur, but I can see where it's all supposed to be heading. Anyway, it's very enjoyable and I come off the mat feeling great. Thanks again.

(And no, none of the girls have thrown me around yet. But I'm 6'1" and 190+ pounds, so maybe they're drawing straws or something... If they don't get round to it next week, I'll start making requests )
Blah blah blah nick blah blah confusion, blah blah blah blah frog.
