...waall, don't know 'bout all that...
The world was getting along just fine in its revitalization/evolutionary cycles for millions of years until man popped up a few hundred years ago and said "Everything is mine and I make all the rules!"
So now man is multiplying like rabbits and literally eating himself out of house and home, which is fine if that's his solution to the overpoplulation question, but he's also eating every other living being out of house and home too. Sort of like those Independence Day alien bozos who warp from planet to planet razing all the resources and then moving on to the next planet.
There's just one small thing man hasn't thought much about. He doesn't have enough time left, before he's eaten himself out of house and home, to develop and build some of those monster bozo alien space ships to get him to the next planet before he starves or otherwise self-destructs.
...or maybe he's under the illusion that some bozo alien space ships are gonna come pick him up before the food runs out.
...whatever, Georgie W. and most of the other clowns who think they own and run the world are so nearsighted they can't see beyond what's on the end of the fork they are just raising to stuff their faces.
But it doesn't really make much difference, because just like those forest fires, even if everything gets burned to a crisp, in the timeless infinity of exsistence, in a few thousand years microbes will begin to proliferate, something will begin to sprout, and the mutant called man will have been totally forgotten. Georgie, Dickie, even Matrox, all gone, long gone.
So what's a few forest fires when nobody notices that the whole planet is burning in one way or the other?
Why pick around on the symptoms if there's no interest in treating the disease?
So maybe you're gonna die before it all gets too bad, but what happens if you happen to get born again ...?How can you possibly take anything seriously?
Who cares?

Dogbert,
You're overstating. I think the total number of detonations is much smaller than that.
Well, ok. France does seem to be playing a bit fast and loose with their nuclear program.
Yet another reason to dislike France.

I do beleive that the U.S. in the 60's have set off around 1200 atomic bombs for their nuclear tests. I even have a video about it, called "Trinity and Beyond". Now I'll have to re-check that video but I don't think I'm off by much.Titanium is the new bling!

Since 1951 there have been 900 nuclear tests in the US Nevada Test Range. 99 of those were above ground and 800 below. Above ground testing stopped in 1963 by treaty with the USSR.

That video was awesome and highly disturbing. They even set one off in space! That was cool to watch.Titanium is the new bling!

I don't know how many were done underground, but we've all seen those movies there the US tested the effects of nuclear detonation on American soldiers from different distances. There were quite a few tests like this.
We've also heard about French, Indian and Pakistanian tests etc. etc. etc.
Even if there were just 20 of these (and honestly we're talking 3 digit numbers),just imagine the effect of 20 bombs about the size that destroyed Hiroshima.
Do you remember all the fuss about Chernobil ? It's nothing compared with Hiroshima. Now imagine Hiroshima x20 and start moving higher.

Re-check my post...I updated it with official numbers.
Nuclear tests have little or nothing to do with the greenhouse effect since none have been exploded since 1992 save for a couple by France, India and Pakistan.
Greenhouse's main contributor is carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and the vast majority of that comes from internal combustion engines and volcanoes.

99 tests in and by the U.S.
What about the other countries ? U.S.S.R, France, India, Pakistan, GB (?)
I'm not implying in any way the it's the U.S responsibility. It's the responsibility of all the "developed" countries.
First we enslave the poor countries to make shoes and toys in sweat shops at sub human condition. Then we pollute their air and water and destroy our (and their) planet.

If those tests could be 'erased', the earth would have been in a much better condition right now.

And if you reduced the human population the world would be a lot better as well.
