Thanks Chhas, I got that. I'll pass all pairs of responses on to the neuropsychologist running the study, and she'll do the individual replies where requested.

FYI, I've modded the final slide to prompt people into taking the second part, and modded the intro screen, so hopefully people will get the idea now.

    Cheers

Hey LeedsLizzie, have you got something else stealing the focus? I can't thing of another reason for it to stop working, unless your PC crashes!

        Thanks for trying.

        Cheers

        edit: Thanks Liz.

          Hey Tony,

Some extra things you might wanna try adding/modifying for your test.

Try getting people to fill in the participant number before you allow them to do the test. I can just run the test without entering the number.

Also, Lizzie might have accidently left or right clicked on the new window. That also screws up the test.

Pressing Tab will also corupt. (Though why your hand would stray that far is anyone's guess)

          Still looking for errors.

          ::Edit:: Discovered another error

:: Edit:: Typed in wrong key. Didn't know what I was thinking at the time

            hello
Maybe would be a bit simmpler if you kept the prompts on a fram on the bottom of the popover window.....

I also missed the last 3 questions because I kept my typomatic rate sems too high... some secon form of input (/ thn enter perhaps?) might have been useful....

            The second test runs fine

?? what response ca you give if you are blind in one eye, but have a preference for the other hand?

            Regards

Hmm, another two things you might want to consider:

Ask for Birthday and sex, get today's date automatically, calculate age from that, and create the participant number automatically out of that.

Don't make people use the slashes for answers, use radio buttons just like any other poll out there. It's what people are accustomed to, doesn't make trouble, and prevents wrong answers

If you want more criticism, just ask

[EDIT: Getting the server date also has the advantage that you won't have to deal with people being in different time zones having different dates at the same time.]

                  Thanks for all the feedback.

What I didn't explain is that this experiment duplicates one that exists as a standalone executable, and has been used in the past. In order for the results to be comparable, the instructions, display, keys etc all have to be the same. I agree it would be better to have a prompt etc, but my hands are tied.

As to the participant number, yes it is a bit awkward. Thanks for pointing out the blank-thing. I'll add a trap for that.
The purpose of the number is purely to tie the two experiments together, and to be unique. Its actual value doesn't matter too much, but you gotta have a system. Given that, the European/US date formats don't really matter, but the example does show how to do it.

                  Cheers

Tony: You still could have a script generate the participant number based on only the age and sex (and automatically fetched date). Would avoid problems with different date formats whatsoever, and be less of a PITA - it's not really necessary, I just like those little details

nah - it gives people something to worry about

Seriously, I will if there is time to implement it before the Festival of Science starts tomorrow (http://www.the-ba.net/the-ba/page.asp?selectPage=28).

You should warn that the Damn test is a little long...
