You know, I think his ideas have potential. If you make them less extreme, you CAN use them in childrens programmes to teach them something. I'm not for disillusioning kids at the age of three, but I think _I_ learned the darkr sides of life on this planet too late, and many I knew I'm sure won't learn at all. Just don't make the message "these people are cool".
The African AIDS character is a very good idea, because AIDS is a BIG problem over there, and it belongs to everyday life, if you want it or not. So children should learn early about it, to help prevent them from getting AIDS when they're teenagers.

You gotta be kidding me. Let kids be kids. They shouldn't have to worry about that bs until they are old enough to understand it, which I would say would start around at the age of 11-12 for SOME things, not 3. I can understand Africa, but bringing it over to the states would be a mistake IMO.System Specs:

Maybe, maybe not. Even here in the States there's a growing number of HIV-positive children, infected from birth. They grow, play, and go to school like any other kid, they just have to be careful when they get a cut and things. I don't think you can really explain that to a kindergarden child, and I think it's the job of the gaurdian/parent, not television.System Specs:

Well that child has to learn. It's their classmate.

I FULLY agree with you on that one. The problem is, we can't. We had a discussion about that some time ago, and the problem is just that many parents either WANT to go working rather than care for the kids, or they HAVE to. Leaving your child alone and going to work instead (or living any other form of an "active" life - working out, etc.) is "chic" nowadays, it's the sad truth.
And if the kids watch TV anyway (where they could really see worse and more disturbing things than an HIV positive sesame street character), why not make them learn something playfully while watching?
