I have had a similar experience to you. I missed the original thread, sorry. Anyway, back when I was living in Lebanon a few years back, around september 98 i think, I suddenly had this terrible flu, with extremely high fever, it was around 42C for two weeks or so. I had a sore throat all the time, and my eyes felt like they were about to explode, with floaters and all. Sleeping and placing something cool on them usually helped. I would get up several times at night and throw up, and it felt like the whole world was spinning. I remember once i was so dizzy i couldn't stand and puked all over myself... There was nothing I could do about it either, I couldn't clean it up myself, nor get someone to help me, my voice was completely gone... At that time everything felt unreal, as if it was some kind of dream... I don't really know how to explain, but somehow I felt so "light". I really can''t explain how I felt at that time. It eventually passed, but I felt completely exhausted long afterwards, with aching joints and back.

I am still not quite sure what it was, but I wouldn't want to experience it again. It was propably partially psychological, as I had several friends and family members die at that time (israeli air raid on a powerplant) and school was being very hard (I had just switched schools).

I still have more floaters now than before, and my eyes "pulse" if I don't get enough sleep or work more than around 12 hours a day on the computer. Sleeping helps a lot with the eyes, as well as using a high refresh rate (~100 hz) with a good quality 2d gfx card and high quality monitor.

Happy to see that you are feeling better now. If you find out what exactly it was could you PM me or something? The symptoms seem to match up pretty good, and I am quite curious as to what it was.

That´s right. You have the gift for making us all think, laugh or at times get really mad, and that´s the the fun of it. Hope you´ll get better!

By the way, I must have missed something: where is Lizzie?

            Slougi,

That sounds terrible. I didn't have as many symptoms, and I _could_ force myself to get up and out of bed.

Some of your symptoms sound like diseases I've heard of, but not all of them. Did you see a doctor at any point during that? I'm glad you got better...

Yes, sleep seems to help with the floaters and eye pressure. Some days are better than others, too. It's really weird.

Long term, if the floaters don't subside, there are treatments for them (pricey, but as I said this is long-term we're talking about).

Plus the way I look at it, 20 years from now (I'll be 47) we'll be able to buy replacement eyes. William Gibson is THE MAN. He's been 100% right so far.

Yes I did see secveral doctors, none of them could diagnose a single disease though, and they all agreed that it was partially psychological. I ended up with lots of different medicines, and they propably also made it somewhat worse.

I didn't really have any floaters before, and the ones I have now don't bother me most of the time, mostly just in very brightly lit conditions.

I have looked into treatment for the eyes, but I cannot afford them at this moment.

              Cheers,

Well, actually Slougi this is somewhat encouraging.

To know that you've made a mostly full recovery is a cheering thought.

My parents have actually been to Lebanon (most of the middle east, in fact, except hostile countries like Iraq) in the past few months. It's possible they picked up some sort of Arabic super-flu, which is what I've had.

It's good to know your eyes went mostly back to normal though. If my doctors ever figure anything out, I'll let you know. Odds are that they won't, though.
