Maynard, I don't see either where this would lead to technological advance. Cloning organs, yes, but cloning entire beings is stupid - we NEED evolution.
Well PIT, the good news about making superhumans is that although we have the genome (mostly) mapped we don't know what ANY of it does yet.
Even the genes that we KNOW do a certain thing don't JUST do that thing, and we have NO idea how they work.
I'm not saying it won't come in time, but hopefully mankind will get tired of making useless clones long before that.
Remember folks, this isn't Star Wars Episode 2. The clone is born as an infant and takes 20 years to grow up... just like the original.

The Internet - where men are men, women are men, and teenage girls are FBI agents!
I'm the least you could do
If only life were as easy as you
I'm the least you could do, oh yeah
If only life were as easy as you
I would still get screwed
Oh Gurm, I'm sure someone will find their way around that. And if they live only for 5 years and are only "usable" for three, so what? They are not expected to last all too long on the field anyway
I sure hope though that after all this recent explosive advance in technology comes a time in which we grow up, mature, and advance socially, so that we might be able to deal with all the power we have at our fingertips responsibly. The last century has seen too much technological and too little social advance. It's just not balanced anymore.
Has anyone actualy thought on how fast we grow from being born to about 1 year (or is it more or less than a year?) !!!
Humans grow verry sloooow....
It's probably not that hard to "disable" the "slowdown" gene .....
If there's artificial intelligence, there's bound to be some artificial stupidity.
Jeremy Clarkson "806 brake horsepower..and that on that limp wrist faerie liquid the Americans call petrol, if you run it on the more explosive jungle juice we have in Europe you'd be getting 850 brake horsepower..."
Technoid: as a rule of thumb: the more complicated an organism is, the harder it is to re-grow limbs. I'm very doubtful that something like that will ever happen on such a big scale.

actually it is, bobba fett is one of them anyway i'm sure if scientists can clone a human being it will be a piece of cake to develop some growth acceleration.
having said that, i'm against it. fortunately we are still far from it.
I would not mind cloning my self...
My clone would be especially usefull doing HW, cleaning up etc
Seriously cloning will result in major social issues as illustrated above. Everyone will consider clones inferior. I know I would
I just hope we do not get to the other extreme were naturaly conceived people are considered inferior!!
It is inevitable, the question is how do we handle it. I am curious what they are going to say to the first clone when he grows up. "Hey you are the first cloned human being", here is your dad/mom.
We messing arround with evolution anyway with all the antibiotics and toxoids we use, why not mess up and bit more
ps. mutz, is your computer case really full of small admirers of Dr. Tom Pabst?
Sorry, just had to pick on that one... We all know you mean Papst fans

I will fight to my last to ensure that those landings were not the end and that we return to stay, to colonize...
