  • England 2 Macedonia 2 : Time for Seaman to go, or Erikson?

Last nights score, David Beckham 2, Macedonia 2.

As the tv pundits said "We expected four goals, but not two apeice."
This time we cant blame the pitch either.

Fair dues to Macedonia, they worked hard, attacked with vigor and broke fast when they got the ball, (pity they went down injured every two minutes though) and effectively denied Owen the ball.
Which was a shame as Englands game strategy for the last few matches seems to be getting Beckham or Gerrard to lob a pinpoint pass to Owen's feet, and then hope he remembers where the goal is.

Lets face it, England were crap. Although Beckham produced his usual gutsy, hard working performace, as did Alan 'red card' Smith and our latest addition to the left of midfield Wayne Bridge, the rest of the team might as well hand in their England shirts.

What the hell game was Gerrard playing in? "Oh dear I've passed to the opposition, I'll jog leisurely back towards our goal." Its almost unfortunate he saved face with one stunning volley which was a carbon copy of the 2nd goal against Germany all that time ago in Munich (beleive it or not, this team once beat Germany by 5 goals to 1 away. I kid you not!)
Sol Campbell then displayed a first touch worthy of Emile Heskey and passed straight to the other side for goal two, and looked unsettled in defence all night. Woodgate wasnt a lot better, having to be rescued by Neville more than once.
Ashley Cole actually put in a reasonable defensive display and linked up well with Bridge on the left flank, one of the few plus points to come out of the game.

As for Seaman, he's been a great keeper, with the emphasis on has. Time for him to retire and make way for someone else. Robinson of Leeds is a popular choice, he's been picked ahead of Martyn at club level, which has to say a lot!

On the whole, England didnt play as a team, and the other side did.
I suppose it might help if Erikson tried playing the same team for more than 45 minutes at a time in freindlies rather than making 9 substitutions at half time. It might have also helped if he'd had more than one attacking player on the bench. Where was Teddy Sherringhams guile, vision and aerial ability when you needed it?
Come on Sven, this was Macedonia! Everyone expected a goalfest and you only bring one spare striker and lots of defensive players?
As the minutes ticked down, I actually found myself wishing Emile Heskey was available (ah, the depths of despair!).

I'm glad we werent playing Wales, who performed magnificently and thoroughly deserved to beat Italy. Well done!

      Sorry RichL
The problem was with the players. There are some serious players in the England squad and they should perform better.
      All kudos to the Welsh.

I think seaman would have retired after the world cup if it weren't for the blunder against Brazil. It's time for him to step down I mean it's embarrasing to be peppered from 30 yards or more becuase they think you're a dodgy keeper.

First Goal Beckham show boating instead of bringing the ball under control resulting in losing the ball. From that they won the corner and then Seaman blundered badly.

Second goal Gerrard forgot the basics and passed to a none exsistant english footballer followed again by another mistake by Campbell. The ball could have gone anywhere but tit went striaght to one of there players and campbell then blocked the view by Seaman.

Couldn't understand Bridge coming off. Also Owens goal should have stood as there was no way Vasel (can't remember who to spell it) was interferring with play as he stood twenty yards away watching Owen put it in the net.

To be honest England had enougth chances to win 4, 5, or 6 - 2. If they had we'd forgotten about the dodgy defending.

Oh Heskey shouldn't play for England goes down to easily and doesn't contribute enougth Smith played a lot better.

I have heard so much bollocks in this thread. England did not draw because of Eriksson. They drew because
          1. Seaman refuses to believe that someone can attemt to score directly from an acute angle. He should retire.
          2. Sol Campbell made an uncharacteristic error after Gerrard gave the ball away needlessly.
          3. Alan Smith missed two goals that Heskey would have scored.
          4. The assistant referees are idiots.

Honestly I did not think England played badly. They had two unfortunate defensive errors and missed a few good opportunities but I thought they moved the ball around well enough. What was lacking was the edge that was evident in the World Cup.

That same edge seems to be missing in a lot of teams right now...

I just dearly hope they'll fire the swedish managers!

I'd just go for being past it.

I think I wrote that already.

Heskey scoring nope he wouldn't even got close to creating a chance. I used to like him but his constant falling over and lack of believe in himself just makes him an passenger that we can't afford.

You forgot referees. Both are pretty poor these days but players cheat all the time which makes it harder for them. Managers and fans always grumble when a player dives against there team but when they own player does it they love it.
