EU recommends ban on Cod fishing

Err how do you get the Cod too jump out of the net so basically proposing banning fishing altogether.
Okay stocks of fish are falling and something needs to be done otherwise the fisherman will be out of fish anyway. So the fisherman will have to compromise sooner or later.
It would have helped of course if the EU stamped out quota hopping and cracked down on illegal fishing commited by other EU countries.

What's really necessary is for the Japanese to keep their fleet in the freaking Pacific.

They're overfishing off the Grand Banks so bad that by the time US fishermen get there's nothing left but fry and adolescent fish

Seriously though every fisherman says they have the right to fish and so has there son and his son but they can't carry on something has to give somewhere on the line.

Another approach is too tax fish to make undersiable and therefore reduce demand. Also the banning of modern equipment to locate shoals of fish would help.

No....I'd just do it a different way. Maybe a ban on products by those companies that benefit from their fisheries. What with how their trade groups work that could really hurt

It has taken 20 years for N.Sea Cod stocks to drop from 350,000 tonnes caught per annum down to 40,000 tonnes. Even if they were to stop fishing it is still possble that they will never reach the levels we used to have. Oddly enough it seems that it the British that are more altruistic about this whilst countries that have less of a claim to these waters are less flexible

The US & Canada have been trying to get them to knock it off too, it's just not as easy as it should be and they sure as hell aren't cooperating
