i dont see people on the street in the EU in the next 5 years, and also not in 20 years. they just don't care. i dunno what the impression is but the all the EU council does is to make some stupid regulations, like how a banana must look like so that it can be called a banana, and standartise(?) toilet seats. but thats about it. the impact on day to day live is neglectable.

also about the national identity: nobody is loosing any idendity. and noone is referring to himself as european rather than german, french etc. - except maybe when they visit the US
