I'm a little bit pissed, but I have to tell someone...
My girlfriend is currently away travelling - at the moment in Sydney en route between New Zealand and Singapore before going into SE Asia. We started off in Chile for a month together in July, and I join her in Vietnam over Christmas before she comes back (to finally start her career - as a lawyer!).
I got miserable back in London on my own, so brought her back for 2 weeks in October. Which was an absolutely wonderful time.
Anyway, to the point. We have been together (and VERY close) for coming up to 4 years now, and we kind of got talking one night when she was back.
The upshot of this is that I have just spent quite a sum on the good old credit card with a jeweller's in Sydney.
We have not told either set of parents yet, or any of our friends, so I have to tell someone... relatively anonymously of couse... but I guess we really are engaged now! I am just thrilled about it all. Full on ceremony will probably be mid-2004 (we like to take our time...), but for the meantime I think when we break it to people, some will be surprised, all will be happy, and of course some will say that we left it long enough... Anyways - excuse enough for a party when we are both back in the UK!
You might think that this way of doing things is not the most romantic - but it really works for us - and the jewellers were great about it all (especially given the time difference...), and though I haven't seen the ring yet, I rather suspect that she is more than happy
Sorry, just couldn't keep it to my(our)self any longer...
Beware - I might delete this thread in the morning though!
