  • Kyoto treaty hypocracy.....

    So....while preaching how to the his own people, the US and about everyone else who thinks Kyoto is unworkable about how evil they are this is how seriously Canada's Energy Minister, Herb Dhaliwal, actually takes the treaty;

    Another one bites the dust.....

Seems his beliefs should apply to everyone but him

Well, from that article he has two residences. One in Ottawa and one out in British Columbia.

So it would make sense that he has multiple vehicles and I imagine one of each kind at each at each residence. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to be driving them back and forth now does it?

Sure it would be nice if people didn't buy the larger vehicles.

The only thing that can be done is to increase the taxes on the larger and less fuel efficient vehicles such as pickup trucks, SUV and mini vans (which would upset the car companies and workers). Or increase the gasoline taxes (which would upset transportation companies and pretty much everyone else).

But the thing you have to remember is that the treaty targets don't come into force until much later. Like ten years from now isn't it?

So if he sells one or more of the SUV by then he's done is part to meeting the targets, right? Plus, he does have those solar panels.

You're missing the hypocracy. Not to mention that under Kyoto the industrial nations have to reduce their emissions so China and others can raise theirs using lower efficiency systems

The US Senate refused to ratify the treaty a 99-0 vote, and I don't see that changing any time soon, especially with many of the other major nations doing likewise.

Even Russia signed the Kyoto protocol....

Of the major western powers the only obstaining nations are the US and Australia (Australia has said they would sign if the US does). Accordingly, the US and Australia also have the two highest per capita emissions of greenhouse gases.

Canada will sign despite unpopularity, understanding the necessity to do so....

The best way to get the third-world countries aboard eventually is to set an example yourself....and having the US, the largest emmitter of greenhouse gases doing that, would be quite an example indeed....

Accordingly, the US and Australia also have the two highest per capita emissions of greenhouse gases.
That figure doesn't take into account all the people around the world who benefit from the processes in the US that produce those greenhouse gases.

When you are producing not only for yourselves but a big majority of the people around the world naturally you are going to produce more so called greenhouse gases.

China has much more production capacity than the US at this time....and despite this has less emissions per capita, although they are on the rise....

You know, I am very much an environmentalist, and yet when environmental issues are commandeered by the seriously left wing wackos who have so little sense, I find it impossible to hope that anything constructive will happen in this area.

Thank you, I do my best.

But calling me a troll is not very kind
So calling you a troll is not very kind but it's OK for you, someone who doesn't even live in the US, to call the president of the US a moron. Hmmmm interesting.

In fact the USA is importing much more goods than it is exporting to other countries (last year the foreign trade deficit was more than 400 billion $). There are other countries such as Germany or Japan who are exporting more goods than they are importing - but these countries produce less greenhouse gases per capita than the USA. So obviously there is a lot of energy consumption in the USA which isn't caused by industrial processes. Go figure...

                          Yeah....its called the automobile.....

The USA, 5% of the world's population, consumes 55% of it's oil......THIS IS WHY WE HAVE THE GREATEST GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS!!!

In fact, I wouldn't call Bush a moron in that regard....he knows exactly what he's doing to help his friends in the oil companies and those that got him elected....

Oh yeah....and then there is that tax cut, of which 52% goes to the top 1%: http://www.ctj.org/html/gwb0602.htm

In what regard is Bush a moron??? He's raping future generations of American's....who'll have no economy, infrastructure, or system of transportation to speak of....(all of it is based on oil today, and no move to alternatives is being made)....

And that trade deficit has existed since 1971 with the weakening of the dollar due to the end of Bretton Woods, which happened due to the overprinting of dollars to pay for the Vietnam War....

Don't forget that Bush hosted an "automotive energy" day at the White House some months back. Ford, GM, Chrysler showed up with prototype hybrids and other cars, which the public <I>might</I> see in a few years, and Bush praised them for it. Toyota showed up with cars <B>available today</B> and they were turned away.
