That is true Alice, but Patrick can sometimes be easily persuaded to make such investments
Actually, entry level is only £70. That could be a LOT of brownie points

PS I did something simillar MANY years ago. I think we still have it somewhere...I'll see if I can find it.

actually that's a cool idea. She spends nearly three hours in the car every day... that could work...

The official Ford on is £375 + VAT

What I usually buy for cheap gifts:

Penguin classics cost 2-3 €/$ a piece so I get people this (lot's of titles) or find out what I know.

As for lobe songz nothing beats doo wop. (Depends if she is the type that likes it).

I have 'probed' her about a CD player. She doesn't want to have to mess about with removing the face plate from a third party player... She is also concerned that it will make her car more appealing to thieves (especially as I have had a couple of break-ins). I was thinking about a portable CD player... They are cheap and would do the job I guess...

Has anyone had any luck with these?

Another el-cheapo gift (more like a date): take her out for a nice walk under the stars or by the beach on a full moon (or on a well lit night) followed by a late snack in a nice restaurant (doesn't have to be an expensive restaurant) where you two can chat for a few hours. Then bring her home and watch a romantic comedy!

If that doesn't make her feel special then I got nothing else to suggest! Except that girls love candles.

i can think of a couple occasions where my girlfriend and I got dressed up and went to normal places....

hehe... once we got dressed up (well, as much as we get dressed up when it doesn't involve expensive food ), went to McDonalds for the $.29 hamburgers (on the 29th of every month), picked up a bunch of them, had a quasi-romantic dinner (about the best that you can have inside a McDonalds on the 29th... ton and a half of familys choose for that to be the day that they eat out...), and then went and watched a romantic movie together at her place...

It was fun. It was stupid. It was all those little things that makes a relationship wonderful.

Its not what you do, its the company that you share...

That's exactly why I suggested the "date" thing cause a memory of a fun evening lasts a lot longer than any store bought gift!

A book would be a good idea perhaps... I gave my boyfriend a book last year, which I think was nice. It's called "Loving - Poetry and Art" edited by Charles Sullivan. I must say it's more appropriate for a boy to give to a girl, unlike what I did, but I liked the book so much, and it was so insightful that I offered it to myself, only to offer him after, with a note at the beginning...

"This is for the one who makes each word of this book make sense"

                  Now, isn't that romantic!?

Hmm... I once tried something similar...

Here is what I found as a possible listing: *keep in mind most of these are love songs*
Atlantic Starr - Always, Elton John - Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Etta James - At Last, Harry Nilsson - Without You, Jeff Healy Band - Angel Eyes, Joe Cocker - You Are So Beautiful, Honeydrippers - Sea of Love, Enrique Iglesias - Hero, K-Ci & Jo Jo - All My Life, Rik Emmet - Let Me Be The One (from Spiral Notebook album), Elvis Presley - Can't Help Falling In Love, Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody, Leanne Rimes - How Do I Live, Savage Garden - Truly Madly Deeply, Sledge, Percy - When A Man Loves A Woman, Spice Girls - 2 Becomes 1, Rod Stewart - Have I Told You Lately, Shania Twain - (with Bryan White) From This Moment On, Shania Twain - You're Still The One, U2 - All I Want Is You

Personally, I second RhinoZ comments. Pick a (few?) song(s) from already listed love songs and learn a little act and lipsync it at home to her after a romantic night out(check out Zoke's comments) and "serenade" her. But make the *fun* tape first.

                      Oh I know!!!

Paddy, dude, find her favorite flower and give it to her with the other gift you plan to give her too, it'll make it that more special.

                      If she's in to flowers.

Deep down it comes comes down to you, cause you know her best and you know (or should know ) what she likes and what she doesn't like.
