    Thanks!

As far as costs, that's the part that I am on right now. I already have the land and those pictures are of the bid set of plans so I can start actually putting numbers together. I have been using $80 per square foot for my planning but I should be able to get in under that. I am in the construction business and have contractors, lumber yards, and contacts running out of my ears. They will all hook me up with a good deal and I have someone in mind for every area of the job. Plus I am doing it myself so I don't have to pay the builder his $40,000 or so. It will be a first class house but it won't cost nearly as much as other first class houses.

BTW, this is all of the stuff that makes me lay awake untill 3 in the morning thinking. :-/

Nice thinking with the bedroom! You can tell the wife that you are just going to the bathroom while you realy just turn on the shower lock the door and sneak out trhou the garage!

Nice house btw please post some pics when you start to build it!
According to the latest official figures, 43% of all statistics are totally worthless...

maybe not that much more if you build it of wood. but who would do that?
btw, is there anything upstairs - or are you planning a cellar? (stair on the right side).

          impressive!

There are a lot of things that are customary in European houses that are not done in American houses (especially in Texas). For instance, when we do wiring here, we don't usually use formed steel conduit. There is also not nearly as much red tape from the government, though, depending where you live, that situation is extremely variable.

Land and material costs are usually a lot less too.

If I understand correctly, and you are in Texas, that helps alot.

I'm in Michigan, but I have relatives in Texas (mostly San Antonio). When I compare costs here and there, it is almost 2:1 or more in cost here, for a comparable home. Believe it, or not!

              Good luck.

LOL Yeah, when you look at the cost per foot on houses they are at least 30 to 40% cheaper down here. Maybe because we have so much cheap labor here in Texas.

The stairs go up to the attic. Since it's such a big one story there is TONS of attic space. I will deck most of it AND keep the options open for a future addition.

Sadly, there aren't that many basements in Texas (bad soil for them I guess). I would LOVE to have a basement for the theater room, but that's not an option

There's no way out from the master bathroom into the garage without going back through the bedroom. Are you proposing he should jump out the window?

Hope you have better luck building this than the Landreys did on HGTV's "Dream House."

Not to second-guess your architect or anything, but isn't it a bit odd to have to go through the bathrooms to get into the closets (childrens' wing...nice touch, that. You can just lock them in and slide food under the door once in a while... )? Seems to me all the moisture from the showers would go straight into the closets.

                              WOW. Beautiful house.

So when does the digging start?

I built my house about 7 years ago, and the only trouble I had were the godd*m pain the a** house inspectors. But we had fun building it. My Father and I did most of the work, and we started with house plans from a napkin with the wife. The only comment I can add is that the kitchen can never be big enough.

                              Enjoy.

Very nice house!! I love the Cave especially Basements are required by law for houses here in KC, afaik. For tornadoes and the like.

Question for you, since you do construction and I'm sure have researched this a lot...What type of insulation are you using?
