I just resigned
This being the season to be jolly - I just handed in my notice and will be quitting my job on Christmas Eve.

I've just resigned from being a mainframe programmer so I can be nearer my family (working 200 miles away really kills your family time!!!!)
I'm thinking of a career change - maybe something 'Civil Service' - nice pension etc
In the meantime I'll be doing telephone technical support for an ISP for pennies!!!!It's easy to die in the past. Staying alive is much more difficult!Comment

Well the best of luck although it would have been better to get something more permantly lined up first.
Don't get disheartened when you get the following.
1) Too old.
I got that at Thirty.
2) No work experiance. 
Dumb ****s can't read a CV.
3) Over Qualified. Oh make your minds up.
And so on.
One of the reasons why I'm staying where I am. Not well paid but theres no real preasure whatever our Union says and I enjoy it and since you spend most of your life at work you've got to enjoy it.
Don't want to do what my father did. He hated his work and finally retired and then got cancer and died in two and half years. Bit of bummer really.Comment

And it is good to see that some are able to make their own choice to leave their jobs instead of being let go because some corporate dickhead is trying to make the bottom line look better for the stockholders.

One of the main reasons for leaving before I have lined up my next permanent job is that my wife works full time and is pregnant and can't cope without me there to support her (working 250 miles away does that!!!)
So I've left to be home every day. Besides, I was losing £700 a month in hotel bills, travel and mobile phone bills so I'm not really any worse off!
