    RIAA update: http://www.stereophile.com/shownews.cgi?1549

Rosen claimed her group would now go after Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in its battle against file trading. Speaking at MIDEM (Marche International du Disque, de l'Edition Musicale) in Cannes, France on January 18, Rosen explained that, since telecommunications companies and ISPs provide their customers access to free song-swapping sites, they will be asked to compensate the music industry.

The RIAA feels that ISPs have been banking big bucks with increased Internet usage and, especially, broadband services, due to the proliferation of music files online. Rosen says, "We will hold ISPs more accountable. Let's face it, they know there's a lot of demand for broadband simply because of the availability of file sharing."
Yet another example of "it's not our fault we're losing tons of money, so let's blame it on someone else and sue them for everything they have!"

The RIAA really pisses me off.

Sorry if this has been posted before.

The Sports Illustrated Swisuit Issue makes men horny.

Horny men want sex from their wives.

    Their wives have headaches.

    Aspirin cures headaches.

You can now download the SI Swimsuit pics online.

SI is suing Bayer. Makes sense, right?

          Morons!!!

They think they can attack ISP's just because they provide an internet service to which some use file-sharing?? That ludicrous!

If this ever goes through then I will personally strangle every RETARD working for the RIAA!!!!

          Morons.

An IQ test IS required for getting a work at RIAA!
no one with an average above 80 is aloved

All I'm saying is I personally don't download any MP3's or any other audio files. Having said that, this is what the RIAA wants to do. But whatever happens I also hope they fail!

the RIAA, on behalf of record labels, is considering the idea of imposing a fee on ISPs that could ultimately end up on the bills of customers who download audio files.
How do they know who downloads what?

Now I'm sure they don't care who downloads what. They just want to make money like the next guy. It's no longer about protecting the artists music, IMO, to the RIAA it's about making money anyway possible! Hence the attack on the ISP. It doesn't make much sense and I personally won't stand for it!

I think Gurm put it best.

Hell, you should. If I were in Canada I would make sure I got my money's worth to make up for that damn tax.

They say they are losing all this money but yet they have recently, at in my area, launched this major "respect the music" radio ad campaign. Wonder how many millions that is costing them??? I can tell you that sells would increase again if they would just launch the "respect the consumer" campaign. Statics show that the launch of Napster and other file sharing programs actually caused a rise in music CD sells but since they have been going after these services that CD sells are actually going down now. F**k the RIAA. I personally will not buy other music CD until they stop their crap.

If they had common sense they'd really that attacking their source of revenue will only continue the exodus away from them and encourage the stealing they wish to discourage. But then again I'm being redundant on this forum again.

Their main problem is that record companies just don't know how to market a product. I'll explain.

If you can download the music for free and without any effort why should someone buy an expensive CD. To support the industry is a very weak reason.
If you want someone to pay for something which can be get for free you have to offer much more. If they don't want to drop the prices of the records they'll have to put in them more features.

It'll cost them near to nothing to add the lyrics in all the Cd's they release, add some photos of the band or artist, give a little discount to see the band in concert or some promotional act the artist can do. They can even put an extra cd with songs from other bands.

Lets don't forget that most artist get the money from live performances not record sales. So why should I give my money to some business men I don't even know or like. If I like an artist an I have the chance to see him in live of course I'll pay the ticket for the gig.

And that brings another issue, from some time now many american/latin "top hit" artists come to europe and instead of playing live they prefer to go to the TV shows to make a playback performance which usually sucks. If I go to a gig and I enjoy with them you can be sure I'll buy their cd or their t-shirt or whatever they sell to support them.

my god, I think I wrote too much. anyway it's my first post as a "murcer" so don't take it seriously

It doesn't help the RIAA's case that most of what passes for music these days is unadulterated swill. I like Britney Spears as much as any other 44 year old guy, but I sure as hell am not gonna buy her CD's. Not at THOSE prices, anyway!

that's like classic slippery slope argument. What they seem to be forgetting is that people arn't online just for music, there is also all of those little bits of news, games, scientific articles that are saving their lives (even though they may not be worth it...), and so much more. Aside from that it isn't the ISPs that are doing all of this, it is the people, so why not sue the world, that seems to be just as logical...I detest these idiots
