  • Miyazaki DVD's announced :D

Three of Hayo Miyazaki's - Japanese master film writer, animator and director - animated classics are *FINALLY* getting a US release on DVD. Each DVD will be a 2-disc collector's set with a remastered anamprphic video transfer, English and Japanese soundtracks and a second DVD with special feature. The movies are:

Spirited Away - The 2001/2002 internationally acclaimed film about a girl who gets stuck in a magic world.

Kiki's Delivery Service - A story about a young witch in a changing world. It's more of a kids story, but it's beautifully done.

Castle in the Sky - a.k.a. Laputa: Castle in the Sky. This is my all time favorite Miyazaki film and a definate classic. The story revolves around a young boy and girl you are being chased down by corrupt governments, because the girl holds the key to unlock the secret weapon in the ancient castle in the sky.

There are already 2 other Miyazaki movies on DVD: Princess Mononoke (excellent movie) and My Neighbor Totoro (which suffers from a horrible Fox Home Family DVD release). Anyone who even remotely likes anime, or who loves a great story, will flip over any of Miyazaki's movies. They are excellent movies suitable for the entire family, except for Princess Mononoke, which has some rather violent parts (a far departure from his other movies), but is suitable for teenagers and up.

To put persective on how well known and loved his movies are in the animation industry: 1) Disney owns the rights for all of his movies in the US (except Totoro and some of his very oldest works before Studio Ghibli was formed). 2) The Pixar animator's and story writers use Miyazaki movies to inspire them when creating their own movies. 3) No live action or other animated movie has ever made more money than the Miyazaki movies in Japan...not even Godzilla. 4) He is the only Japanese animator known by name throughout the world.

Yeah...I'm a happy anime fan today

English doesn't borrow from other languages. It follows them down dark alleys, knocks them over, and goes through their pockets for loose grammar.
