What is that picture a view of? Underside of the wing? Top side? Leading edge? Training edge? I can't decifer that...

It is a picture of the left wing (looks like underside to me) taken on the 5th flight day.

Cant help but think... They shoulda bought that heat resistant gel that hairdesser dude invented.

Instead of refusing to pay his asking price, thay decided to try to reverse engineer his compund.. And never succeeded.

Time for beddies now.. I'll try to find a link to what I'm talking about tomorrow.

A few days before the Columbia shuttle disaster, NASA noted that debris which hit the left wing during takeoff created "the potential for a large damage area to the tile."

Heads need to be rolling right now, starting with O'Keefe's!

That is not any part of a shuttle.
The entire underside of the shuttle is black.
The picture has no tiles and is not the untiled surface either.
And the shuttles wings do not have any protrusions like that.
Things are bad enough without veering off into area 51.

You're right, Chuck, that must be some other object in orbit there.

Not sure if that's sarcasam KvH, but that is NOT part of the wing of the shuttle. If it's even a real picture at all, it's something in the cargo bay.

It's not sarcasm, the shuttle has nothing like those black protuberances shown. It may be a satellite or some other object. I still think O'Keefe should be strung up, though..

Really ...
Hey genious, how were they going to be "rescued"?

Actually, I don't think they knew. The astronauts could have hung out at the ISS, if they thought they were hosed. Another shuttle, or a couple of Soyuz, could have gotten them.

I worked hard at finding a picture of Columbia that had those protrusions. No luck. Definitely not a wing surface. Wing surface is smooth except for the control surfaces which are pretty much the width of the wings.
