Huzzah! One of my favorite novels, and would make an excellent movie with today's directorial style. Wouldn't have worked 10 or 20 years ago I don't think.

          Lefty,

Not hard at all. Unlike Tolkien, Clarke translates quite well into other languages.

                  Thop,

Yes, it's EXACTLY like Hitchhiker's Guide.

                  Except it's not a comedy.

And it doesn't have any actual aliens.

And there's only one space ship.

                  And it's completely different.

Every Sci Fi author is a deviant.. especially that overbearing pompous ass Isaac Asimov. He was under the delusion that his was the most superior mind in all the world, and felt it was his mission to write ceaselessly on every topic, graciously explaining all great concepts to us mere mortals in terms we could understand. His great horror about death was that his brain would be worm food.

Clarke has gotten a little full of himself in his later years.

Anyone read 3001: The Final Odyssey? If you cut out all the preaching it would be 5 chapters long.

Still, it would make a helluva movie starring Brendan Fraser as Frank Poole.
