The head of Benevolence International Foundation, a Muslim "charity" in Chicago, has pled guilty to charges of racketeering in a US federal court.
Enaan Arnaout, 40, was originally charged with racketeering, money laundering and 5 other charges based on evidence developed in raids of the group's offices in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The evidence found linked him to purchases of weaponry for Al Qaeda.
Such plea bargains are common in the US when a defendent realizes his goose is cooked, especially when part of the deal is to cooperate with federal prosecutors (which is the case here).
