Spooge is right, changing to a 3 letter search index generates a database over 4 times its current size with some 7 million entries, is adding a * really so much to ask? 
I haven't decided to limit the search to 4 letters that is the default of the software so there is nothing unsual there, go to any vb forum and you will see that the vast majority are the same. I'll look at getting some of Rag's instructions up when I've a bit of time to spare, I just naturally assumed people around here were a little more literate in these things
