  • Contest idea

With everyone so eager to try and predict what will be coming from matrox why not make it into a contest. I don't have the money to offer cash or prizes for such a contest, but if someone else wants to do it thats fine.

The idea is who ever comes close at guessing what the next product will be and what features it has etc etc. Would win a prize or something. Anyways just an idea

Nice Idea, but no prices, just for fun, please

Good idea. The honor of being correct (or closest to correct) should be prize enough.

alright, im down. here is my submission to the contest:

Size: looks very much like the G450
Processor: 50%-75% additional transistors than the g450 on .18micron processes. 4 pipelines
        Speed: 225Mhz Core Speed
        RAMDAC: 360Mhz primary, 325mhz secondary
        Memory: 250Mhz 4ns DDR 128bit on 256bit dualbus. 32mb
outputs: VGA and DVI like the g450(hopin for dual DVI though)
Software Support: Limited DX8 support. Embm. no dot3. displacement mapping. partial T&L
        drivers: built on G4xx drivers

Max version? depends, this could be it, if not, my guess is the core will be bumped to 250Mhz and the memory will be 3.5ns DDR running at 275Mhz conservatively.

other guesses. the box will be cardboard, and come with drivers.

oops.. i forgot price. vanilla card will debut at US$209 and then drop to like $169. MAX will debut at $259 and drop to $229.

I´m not going to guess anything, but warped, do you actually think that a board with 3,5ns memory only will cost 260$? I would guess closer to 400$.

And let us not forget that the card is a Matrox card, and M cards always costs more than other cards. (G400 MAX,:rolleyes

                Speed: 240Mhz - 250Mhz core
                RAMDAC: 400Mhz Primary, 360Mhz secondary

i hope they make a 32meg version of the "MAX", simply because the extra cost for that speed of RAM, 4ns or less, is expensive and will make the card much more expensive with little performace increase.

Speaking of blue, how about having a Matrox blue PCB?

                      LS,

blue, green, black, pink are already taken.

I think I´d prefer a white PCB, and all components should have golden legs

ya, you are probably right. But i do think that my prices are close. Perhaps my guess on memory was a bit overly optimistic. Maybe closer to 4.5ns on the vanilla, and 4ns on the MAX

or perhaps, they will just be silly and proclaim that with DDR they wont need high speed so they will use like 6ns and 5.5ns respectively.

If they made the board black with silver components i would buy if just for the look

i hope the specs look like this:

                            -250 MHz Chiptakt
                            -4 Rendering-Pipelines

                            -AGP 4x
                            -full DirectX-8.1-Support
                            -2 VGA outs(DualHead-Version)
                            -Dual-Chip able (Max-Version)

(specs for the radeon II, changed them a little

                              It'll have a green PCB.

                              If that's wrong, I'll donate a prize
