Matrox's Future Card and pricing

Its nice to see everyone fairly optimistic, but does any one here harbor doubts that Matrox's next card will not be the card that we are all waiting for?

I just dont want to see people get let down in a similar way to the G800 fisaco.

I belive Matrox wont do the same mistake twice! I dont think they have sold so many G550 cards as they hoped!

I belive Matrox can and will give us a good high end card this time! I just hope they can get it out in time, they should have announced something before E3, and the card should ship before the end Q2 or perhaps in the start Q3, at the latest!

So come on Matrox!

No mistakes twice. Even canadians couldn´t do this... I guess Brian Adams is an exception to this rule, wouldn´t you agree?

$300 or 300Euro should be max for me since I am not rich at the moment.

But even $600 shouldn´t be too much considering the fact that we don´t have to upgrade for the next 3 years again. Not 3 months like all the Nvidia guys!

Im curious, what can justify a pricetag at 900+$

the only matrox cards in the price range i have heard of, is the mms series and the rt series, i can´t imagine a card that expesive card would be anything but a card for professionals.

if it its a gamers card, then it has to be truly amazing, i wouldn´t pay that much for anything unless it can outperform other high-end cards for the next 3+ years,(which i don´t think is realistic).

i mean, i can upgrade my whole system TWICE for that amount of money.

It's a shame Matrox doesn't have a 6 month product cycle... I'd be able to get the next-to-high-end-generation card for 150,- EUR then

Anyways, I don't have the money, so I'll buy it when it gets cheaper. The problem with this is that Matrox cards stay expensive for a loooong time

I will pay 150$ for a "three-times faster than G400" card and 200$ for a "three-times faster than a G400Max" card.

Three years ago, I changed my old G200 with a new, shining G400MAX because it was three times faster!

Obviously I want at least 64Mb of SGRAM or FCRAM not DDR SDRAM

The MMS has made a lot of money for Matrox I am sure. Same with the RT series. These aren't cheap, but they sure do sell a bunch of them.

Don't forget the medical imaging market.
Matrox's new G200Med or whetver its called is a medical version of the g200mms. The medical market will pay a lot more for graphics cards, due to the requirements (better output stage, 10-bit dac, grayscale, landscape mode, calibration etc).

Medical stuff doesn't need 3D power.. just raw 2D speed and bandwidth between the pci bus and framebuffer.
The only problem is, its based on the G200 core, and is gonna be too slow to push 1200x1600 images while doing windowing/levling (realtime contrast and image manipulation).

I would expect a lot more for my money. Since Matrox has yet to announce a new card, I figure we have at least 3 months before anybody gets their hands on one. That would be 3 years since the G400 was released, and cost about $200 for the MAX. 3 years is enough time for Moore's Law to kick in twice, so the card should be 4x MAX speed for the same price.

Also, the MAX didn't reach full potential until 800MHz+ CPUs came out a few months later. So, the new card should be 5x MAX speeds, to start with

(Hehe, here I had a post claiming that I actually paid 350 US bucks for my G400MAX... Damn these €uros, still haven't got used to them because it seems that I made a mistake. Actually I paid about 250 USD, which fits in pretty well with Wombat's post.)

If Matrox has decided to go three years between "generations," they need to come out with a card that's at least 10x faster than a G400Max.. so it will be at the forefront for at least 3 years.

I am currently searching for a new video card, and my current candidates are Radeon8500, GF4 and the possible new Matrox card. Since this card would be used both for work and games, I'd need whole lot of "demanding" features: Excellent picture quality, dual monitor support and of course, it should blazing fast in 3D (Unreal 2 is coming out soon, hopefully...). And of course, stable and reliable drivers would be nice.

In current cards some of these features are mutually exclusive so of course I am hoping that Matrox could come up with something that meets my demands. If such a card was available, I would gladly pay 350-400 euros.

Too bad I cannot wait forever. My final deadline is the date Unreal 2 is out and then I will get the best candidate... I hope that Matrox has at least announced something by then.
