When the G450 was being beta tested, just about everyone clever and informed around the MURC had signed up and was under a "shut up" agreement with Matrox, also known as the NDA.
It didn't make for very interesting discussions around here. Someone would say something, there would be a reply saying they were wrong, but we couldn't learn anything more. In fact, you NDA signers couldn't repeat something you heard from another source if it had to do with the G450, or what many of us thought might be the G800.
Maximum PC had a discussion about the topic of NDAs about
a year ago. They decided not to sign any more because it interfered with their ability to be reporters of new technology.
I suggest that at least some of you MURC members would consider this option to turn down the offer of beta testing the next Matrox product.
I really don't understand the Matrox philosophy of secrecy in these matters, especially if they are only months away from completing the product. Suppose the specs that are leaked are true and Nvidia learns of them. What will they do in response? Crack the whip of their engineers to make the GeForce 5 even faster than before? Its not like anyone is holding back (unless they are getting technology from aliens).
Even when it comes to new innovations from Matrox, there are no competitors matching what they offer even years later. Who is doing bump mapping the Matrox way? Who is doing talking heads conferencing in their next product? No one that I am aware of.
