ATI Mobility M9 to include all R300 features

The card will have "full R300 functionality" so you can expect to see eight pipelines and four TMUs.

Yes, it will have displacement maps since everybody is talking about this for ages, and it will have pixel and vertex 2.0 support since that is just what you will find in DirectX 9.1
            Main: Dual Xeon LV2.4Ghz@3.1Ghz | 3X21" | NVidia 6800 | 2Gb DDR | SCSI
            Second: Dual PIII 1GHz | 21" Monitor | G200MMS + Quadro 2 Pro | 512MB ECC SDRAM | SCSI
            Third: Apple G4 450Mhz | 21" Monitor | Radeon 8500 | 1,5Gb SDRAM | SCSI

wouldn´t that consume too much power?
This sig is a shameless atempt to make my post look bigger.

Power is not a problem... they'll just slap an optional 10kg of batteries just for graphics support.

Or they're thinking along the lines of GPUidle

The latest powersaving technologies in ATI products actually seem to disable blocks of the GPU when they aren't needed, or when power supply is low.

So what Durango said is probably very true.

I think it'll be more along the lines of what Greebe said. Not that I believe the above news regarding m9 to be true, but AFAIK nV have used a power-saving design where unused parts of the graphics chip were powered down.

EDIT: Cleared up my wording a little

Well if it's static logic, then all they have to do is shut down a few inputs, and maybe the clock (since that can be 20% or so of power drain). Much easier for a video chip than a processor.

Only 20% over current batteries. And today's batteries are way too low on charge anyway.

These techs will go by the wayside soon anyhow, being replaced by micro-fuel cells. Closer than you think.
