The question now should not be can Matrox produce something of this magnitute but can they get it into production in numbers quickly because if anything is going to screw up Parhelia now it will be that.
that is what i am afraid of too

I agree with vigilant here, matrox have done alot to make these rumors appear.
this time they started the rumor-engine themselves(or atleast gave it a big push). I´m quite sure that matrox knew exactly how much attention they would get, when they showed the displacement mapping demos at GDC.

seen from the perspective of the ordinary computer user, with interrests in graphics-cards, matrox pops out of nowhere, and show off some extremely impressive technology and leaves without a comment. of course that is going to start some wild speculations on the internet, and i think that matrox PR planned this.
I would be very suprised if matrox PR didn´t knew about the presentation.
This sig is a shameless atempt to make my post look bigger.

As this product is about to be announced one would assume the technology is already in place unless they are going to announce but say they will deliver in a few years when the technology is available to them

Matrox's exit from the video scene was down to economics, they were spending a major portion of their budget and resources on developing and supporting products that only sold in limited numbers to the detriment of other products. The main reason for the failure to deliver the G800 was that they over allocated money and resources to the G450 eTV, we got the G450 eTV but not the G800, which one would you sooner have seen? Now we could have had the G550 eTV or the Parhelia, the G550 eTV got dumped and we will see Parhelia. It's not down to a lack of balls but common sense.

Matrox are now starting to do things as they are able to do and once did, concentrate on a quality piece of hardware in the areas they know they are good, allow their Video Group to do likewise for add on Video Products. Take a look at the Matrox Video Products Group and the "consumer" level products they have produced in the last couple of years and you will see where Matrox Graphics are headed, high quality, high performance and a somewhat high price tag.

The "rumorus" that have originated on this forum by people in the know are not rumours but facts that you can take as read.

To pull this off, matrox will need to use some serious technology, such as 256-bit DDR memory bus, QDR memory, or some other exotic memory type. Or it will have to use a tile or some other exotic (non immediate mode) rendering technology. Matrox just hasn't shown any enough real "balls" over the last few years (the G450, G550 and their rapid exit from the video capture market are all examples of the lack of "balls") to be able to make the rumors believeable, let alone make people (me) believe the parhella is the real deal.

BTW, what about the hat recipe book .

I don't mean to diss you Ant, but if these rumors are actually facts, why hasn't Matrox themselves announced them, and if they are facts, arn't the people saying them breaking their NDA? If they are not authorised to spill their guts, and if they are not speaking with the authorisation of the big "M", how can I be sure that what they say is true.

Read my lips, Matrox announce on their announcement date. That date is set, on that date they will annonce, when they announce the World will know that is the point of having an announcement. Matrox aren't gonna bring forward their plans because some of the info has got out and some people are eager to know whats going on. Information leaks out from other manufacturers about their new products, do you see them all cancelling all of their unveiling plans to confirm the leaks? No.

You're really starting to be a bit of a Troll Rugger whether that is your intention or not. As I've said before this is the Crystal Ball forum for "rumours" if you don't like what you see then stay out and stick to other factual forums then come back in a couple of weeks time when you know what is what. If you look elsewhere on these forums you will see what the expected announcement date is and you will see it has not yet come around. Any facts can only be classified as rumours because only one party can verify them and they will only do that when they are ready to do so not just because you are getting impatient.

Try buying one from a sex shop. They do have edible underwear, maybe if u r lucky u can find some hats too

                    I missed this part.

I haven't brought a video card in almost 2 years.
                    Hey rugger,

You really should take the time to read the post more carefully. I said,

                        come on, lads...

Rugger is being a bit of a 'devils advocate', and 'doubting thomas', but you must expect him to be a bit defensive - not 1 but 3 moderators are jumping on his 'hairy brain'

He can doubt - and I am SURE that everyone will truly take the piss when/?if? he is proved wrong, BUT he can still express his doubts about some of the comments flying..... remember, most of us HAVE NOT had the benefit of samples/betas/flash presentations or whatever.....

We (most of the fori members) have just the old timers being incredibly anal with their in-jokes.....

RedRed, lets modify that a bit to... 6 beta testers three of which are moderators, the MURC owner & admin Ant and Haig Matrox Tech Support supervisor.

Do we see a trend here? Rugger doesn't seem to... even tho we've heard hints from countless others on sites all over the planet under NDA... besides we've been biting our tongues for a long time about this one and even tho we like to tease with hints it's not like there isn't a single soul begging to lap up more

If I'm not mistaken it's not going to take an official announcement to see whatever particular variety of HAT eaten by rugger, but the release of said product and not until he has one in his hands. Which means nothing but nothing will convince him til that happens.

Having only a Matrox card in my machines for the past 5 years, it's been my experience that if the card isn't >$300 MSRP, it's nothing spectacular.

I strongly suspect Matrox realizes the gaming market is a big cash grab if they design the right chip (ie. something gamers will fork over $$$ for), and they can push nVidia & ATI to the low end market once again. Kind of full circle, like.

As far as the specs flying around the net go, I really can't speak upon. I've been out of the mainstream 3D arena for too long. But this is first time my gut feeling has been that Matrox has pulled off another winner like the the first Millennium. I expect to pay the price for performance this go 'round.

Interestingly, the last time I was in the Matrox rumor mill was back on the MUML for the G200, and Ant didn't have _any_ supporters.
