Don't 3D IMAX movies work by using glasses that alternatively block each eye off, so the 50fps shown on the screen is turned into 25fps for each eye, giving the effect of 3D? If so, then is it possible that Matrox have a similar method? Although thinking about it now, that would not need DualHead in order to accomplish that (friends of mine had a set of goggles that could accomplish this in Descent on a P-133 with no 3D card).

What DualHead could be used for is outputting two images, each offset slightly. Perhaps if these two signals were then passed that through a special connector that turns them back into a single signal, perhaps using the red/blue method of creating a 3D image... who knows.

Either way, it's not really going to be a selling point for me, and I imagine a lot of their potential market would feel the same. (Hmm... am I think I'm getting deja vu... )

      hmm!
could it be some sort of omnimax format.
you know the screen is formed like a sphere, and the viewer sits inside the sphere, and there is a projector in the center.
I have only seen this in big planetariums.

could be cool if you were a millionaire with a big empty hall and money to burn.

Hmm! in second thought this would REALLY REALLY blow me away, even slow camera pans makes me dizzy, like i was riding a rollercoaster, imagine a fast paced 3d-shooter

Thought IMAX movies used polarised light for each projector at 90° so each eye sees a different image.

But isn't all refelected light automatically polarised.

to be honest that OmniCasting feature doesn't seem very useful to me. hope it is not the killer feature that was mentioned here.
          no matrox, no matroxusers.

well, i can´t really imagine that omnimax card myself, it would rule in 3d-games though, but it would take up a whole room, and those omnimax-projectors are VERY expensive, I don´t know anybody who could afford it.

but then again, even omnimax theatres might need a suitable graphic-card, and this could explain the astronomy-like codename "parhelia".
another niche-product for matrox, they already make some pretty specialized stuff, like their MED2mp cards or their vision-processors.

You may be right there. I just seem remember the (overly large and somewhat uncomfortable) glasses having ir ports on them. That was a few years ago, so I am not sure. Hmm... I think I may have to go on a fieldtrip some time to jog my memory - especially seeing as our local IMAX has a Simpsons in 3D movie showing.

hmm, you mean perhaps something else that would work similar but smaller and portable

                    let me guess:
a hat with a big umbrella, and a projector.

The ability to handle 3d glasses would be very cool, especially for certain pro apps, not to mention games

but the idea of having a display dedicated to each eye would be excellent if you had a good headset that could display it.
High quality flicker free real 3D 3D..mmm yes
*I want VR on my MTV, yeah thats the way to do it*

actually, a 3D IMAX film consists 2 films, and 2 projectors.

they are run in sync and they do use polarised lenses on the projectors so that with the glasses you only see the correct image out of each eye. IMAX 3D is quite expensive and a pain in the ass to do. (that being the obvious reason that there are so few IMAX 3D theaters to play at)

Matrox cards have been able to handle 3D glasses for ages.
Maggi's been using shutter glasses on his Matrox cards for years.

As far as some kind of dome/projector/imax rigging...I think thats a bit far fetched.
However, there have been rumors of triplehead support on P...so I could easily believe they might rig up some sort of panoramic 3-display gaming dealy, if the trihead rumors are true.
Of course, the game would have to support custom resolutions and an adjustable FOV...and as fate would have it, the Q3 engine used in many games today (as well as some other engines) do support these things....hmmm....

yeah most video cards can handle the add on dongle thingy.
But I was hoping for something like asus or elsa's range of cards bundled with shutter glasses.

I use a asus geforce with its bundled 3d glasses occasionaly. very good in colin mcrae 2 and in half life DOD, snipers are very easy to spot in 3d. and in colin mcrae I almost drive of cliffs for the sheer 3d pleasure of it(not because I am a krap driver )
