What is the minimum system requirement recommended for this new card ?

    Haig posted May 06, 2002 12:10 PM

Hasn't been determined yet but I think it will be ~ a 600Mhz cpu.

Very Important Question for Me: Will the new Card physically and electrically fit into an "old" AGP 2x slot ? because i do not want to upgrade my BX board ...

Related to the previous questions. I'm using a PIII running at 533Mhz (133Mhz fsb) and my AGP slot is 2X. Will I be able to use the new card? If yes, will the above mentioned specs affect it's performance (and to what extend will that be)?

    Haig posted May 06, 2002 02:07 PM

It will physically fit into a 2x slot. Electrically, we haven't determined if we will support it or not becuase we would like to have it working on a 2x.4x.8x system.

Our drivers won't block any installation based on the motherboard. I don't know to what extent a lower cpu will affect performance.

    Haig,

Will DVI support finally include 1600 x 1200? Thanks

Everyone will soon see what the features will be.

With a P4, I sure hope so. You have to have that thing running over 2GHz just to perform decently.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

Going form my P3B-F/PIII850 to this rig was like going from a Mustang/302 to a Mustang GT/390.

Windows snap open almost instantly; MSPro, Photoshop and Premiere load in a flash, etc. etc.

            Get the picture?

Not really....When it comes to just running the o/s itself,i'm well past the point of noticing any difference, regardless if the cpu is running at default clock or at the speed it is set to currently....The only times i do feel a difference is when i'm running lots(and i mean lots...) of apps at the same time.

As far as gaming goes,it is noticable but only in games wich are known cpu hogs(mostly racing games and flight sims for the most part) and i'm sure that a large part of the increase is also due to the higher fsb speeds as well....

One of the good things that hitting 133 mhz fsb allows on this particular board is that it resets the AGP and pci buses back to their default speeds,so my only concern is keeping the cpu running within normal temps....

I am buying a brand new PC just for the P, how dedicated is that?

                AMD XP 2000+

                512MB Samsung DDR PC-2700

                TaiSol CGK760092X1 HSF
                Matrox "??????????" gfx card

                That should be enough!

i have the iwill xp333 board and plan to push the fsb( hoping for 200). how far did maggi get the g400 to go reliably. do you think we will get the same margins in the new probuct.

This performance increase would have as much to do with your ram as it does to your cpu. The difference between 128meg and 256 in win2k is incredible. Especially when running mass amounts of applications - I am a bit of a power user myself and often have 15-20 windows open from various applications and use up to 250meg of memory just in day-to-day use. I know from experience that the amount of ram you have is more important than your cpu speed - I've seen a Celeron 450 vastly outperform a PIII 650 because the Celeron had 256meg and the PIII only had 128. My Athlon 700 with 320meg ram (at 133mhz) runs omre than well enough for me still.

Getting back on topic, I was thinking only today that it would be interesting if someone asked Haig what cpu you need to get a benefit from Parhelia. I am still not quite prepared to part with my Athlon 700 (Slot A - not even a T-bird!) - for emotional reasons, as well as financial (I doubt I could afford a Parhelia right now, let alone new cpu/mobo at the same time )

I run a Samsung Syncmaster 900IFT (19") from a G450 at the moment, and it's very sharp all the way up to 1600x1200. The only problem is refresh rate at that res - only 75Hz - so I generally stick to 1280x1024 which is high enough really.

If the model you are looking at can do at least 85Hz @ 1600x1200, go for it.

I suggest looking at the Cornerstone lineup for Monitors. Theres quite a few of us that quite pleased with their Monitors

And if Cornerstone doesn't fall into your taste you can always go for Iiyama or Sony(tad expensive though).
