Take this with a grain of salt, since I am completely biased in favor of Matrox.

But reading Tom's article made me ask, why are they so skeptical?

When Nvidia and ATI release specs, they paddle their ponies about it as if it were carved onto stone tablets carried down from the mount.

The author of this article acts as if it is all quite dubious.

I agree that ultimately we need cards in hand and in our computers to pass final judgement, but this treatment is inconsistent.

Perhaps they feel that Nvidia and ATI have proven they can deliver what they promise, and therefore can be trusted more than Matrox.

I would contend that Matrox never reneged on a promise. The G450 and G550 may have disipointed gamers, but to my knowledge were never promised to satisfy them in the first place. Quite to the contrary, they warned us ahead of time not to get too excited.

In addition, in the area of graphics cards, most of the money to be made is in the OEM sector, and this is already firmly in the hands of Radeon 7500/700 and GeForce 2 Ti/GeForce 4 MX. Matrox has not planned anything for this market segment.
Um, I thought that was what G450 and G550 were doing, as well as G200 MMS, G450 MMS, G450 dual DVI, etc.

moreau, it has been a long time since Matrox released a gaming card some people will only believe it when they see it. Hopefully when the card is released all people who think Matrox are useless at gaming cards will have a different opinion when they see how it performs
