Until people see the card up against other cards, and see how it performs for the money. People will continue to be skeptical.

The $400 or $500 isn't an issue with the majority of people wanting a high-end card (and there's quite a few of those people). Its all about performance. The features only become an issue after the performance has been scrutinized. Why is that? Because above all else, the performance is what people want to see first and foremost. Second comes what the card has for a feature set. If a card has killer performance and lacks certain features, it will be excepted by the people who know that some features are not even available for another year or two in games and apps anyway. If a card has killer features and lacks performance, it will be pushed to the side for the next card. What needs to be focused on during a launch is the performance, followed close behind with the features.

This is coming from someone who has no brand loyalty, so I can separate myself from that fanboyism stuff.

And no matter what users think of these sites.. The companies never stop sending information to them. Why? Because we should all know, Good or bad review doesnt matter, its demographics of the site.

It depends on the definition of enthusiast. From the people I know on irc and other bbs's, I am the only one even remotely excited by the parhelia, and I would classify these people enthusiasts. All in all the welcome of Parhelia has been far from positive, with people complaining about price (400$ gf x anyone?), die size and other things.

    NO, no, no.

The enthusiast is probably the one getting a Parhelia (think about the features my friend, and that means not only the 3d features). Only the gamer that doesn't know anything about hardware may get an nV based board (they are easier to get hold of). But don't forget it will take a loooooong time before we see any NV30's or R300's on the shelfs.

Parhelia is a fantastic product, and the people moaning are in my opinion plain ignorant. One example is the issue about some form of bandwidth saving tech. THIS THING HAS 20GB/s OF BANDWIDTH!!! And with a four pipe chip, do you need more???

No, he is a realist. The general pc user will not buy a parhelia, although it might turn out that the proffesionals will do that. But even the pc-enthusiasts will most propably wait for the NV30/R300.

Luckily not all of us are similar

    Edit: forgot bunny

    Matrox Parhelia-512: "False Revolution"?

As for professional application, which I considered the most suitable for parhelia-512 once I saw the specs, everything will depend on the software quality, on the drivers for professional applications (such as ELSA drivers for Quadro, for instance). And Matrox has never been very successful at writing drivers. However, everything may change this time, though I will not believe it until I see the tests results. Of course, there is also a group of professional users requiring excellent 2D quality (such as editors, for instance), but do they really need such a powerful 3D then?
Well, you may call me an inveterate skeptic, but I do not believe in immense popularity of the new Matrox Parhelia-512 in any of the market segments, and hence cannot regard this product as a revolution in the full meaning of this word. At least until I see some details test results.
Looks like the writer here is an nVidiot to!!

tom is blind. he like those companies who give him his pc.

first it was the nice video about removing a heatsink (yeah, i do that 2 times a week with my alpha 8045) and then it is those hype about niwieder.

releasing driver every week is not the best way. ever tried to install powercolor nvidia ? every second detonator wont even work.

thats why i got a millenium, a g100, g200, g400, g400max and then my herc 4500. and now its the parhelia.

i was not not disappointed from the kyro but it is a little slow by now.

man, when does parhelia come to germany ? 2004 ? we are living behind the moon i think.

Haig if you're reading this. See if you can delay Tom's card until after all the pre-orders have been sent out.

The people that want the cards, should get the cards.

I say f*** em. Send me Tom's card, Haig. I will actually pay for it.

Comments well noted and passed on. FWIW, I don't blame your reaction.

    Enjoy the ride folks

I have been thinking about this, and I couldn't agree more. If they are so biased towards nVidia anyhow, and write a review that gives only faint praise like that when Parhelia is quite obviously due a standing ovation, it might look much worse for Matrox than if they get no card at all to review, get pissed off, and write a scathingly damning review. The latter will get them laughed out of the industry and ruin their credibility once and for all.

I say f*** em. Send me Tom's card, Haig. I will actually pay for it. If you want me to, I will even write a (totally unbiased ) review of it myself right here.

BTW, THG always makes an article on hardware bugs and glitches in new products, but he never even mentionned the horrible G4Ti Aniso Filtering bug: enabling Aniso (doesn't matter if it 2 or 8 samples) DISABLES the second texturing unit of the whole four pixel pipelines... Man, playing MOHAA @ 1024x768 with every game details options maxed out and 4x4 MSAA plays fine (but looks like shit due to the bad filtering), but enable Aniso (which greatly improves visual appearance) and the things is always below 40 FPS... where I could easily get 75 FPS in the worse parts...

There are a few alpha/beta boards out there, but they are mostly in the hands of developers. None of the review sites has a final product yet.

    But they will Soon(tm)
