  • GigaColor/DX9 compliancy?

"Also, DirectX 9.0 expects pixel data in floating point, so GigaColor will also keep this card from being compliant with DX9."

    http://www.slcentral.com/c/h/a/2002/...elia/page5.php
What does that mean?!? I understand it like "You can't have GigaColor if you wanna be DX9 compliant!"
Or does it mean just the opposite? My english ain't excellent... (will also keep from being.... I understand every word but not the sentence... )

I think they are talking about the lack of alpha channels the Parhelia will have due to the 10-bit color precision (will have a 2-bit alpha channel vs. 8-bit with most other cards). However, they jump to the conclusion too soon. No one is completely sure how they will be using the alpha channel in 3D and games.

Well you may be right. DX9 might reguire you to have 8-bit alpha channel, even though it's quite silly... I mean, just like you said, no one knows if they are ever needed.

Isn't parhelia capable of old-fasioned 8:8:8:8 32bit colour as well as 10bit gigacolour?

Uhm.... isn't it obvious from the quote? DX9 needs pixel data in floating point format. I assume Parhelia works with integer pixel data, not floating point data. Hence the conclusion that it ain't DX9 compliant.

Don't shoot if I'm wrong though
